2023 MPBL Season
The 2023 MPBL season is the ongoing fifth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the second as a professional league. The regular season began on March 11, 2023 and will end on September 30, 2023. The playoffs are set to begin in October 2023. The league took two breaks during the regular season, during Holy Week and during the Philippines' co-hosting of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This season features 29 teams, with five teams returning to the league alongside two expansion teams: the Negros Muscovados and the Quezon Huskers. The opening ceremonies took place at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena, Quezon. The 2023 MPBL All-Star Game will be held at Bataan People's Center in Balanga, Bataan. This season also marks the second year of OKBet's partnership as title sponsor of the league. The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines. History Manny Pacquiao launched the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League on August 29, 2017, starting off as a semi-professional league. According to Pacquiao, the league is not intended to be a competitor to the Philippine Basketball Association, the country's top professional basketball league. The MPBL was intended to feature both a regional commercial and barangay-level league with teams on the commercial side to have a home locality in addition to a corporate sponsor. In the first months, the league hosted teams from Luzon with future plans to expand to accommodate teams based in Visayas and Mindanao like the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association. Marikina Shoemasters are a Filipino professional basketball team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) based in Marikina. It is one of 11 active teams based in Metro Manila, as well as one of four based in the Eastern Manila District. The team plays their home games at Marikina Sports Center. The team began play during the 2018–19 season. The name references Marikina's moniker as the "Shoe Capital of the Philippines". The team has also participated in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3. San Andres Sports Complex
The San Andres Sports Complex, also known as San Andres Gym and formerly as Mail and More Arena, is a sporting venue along San Andres Street in Malate, Manila, Philippines, owned by the local government of Manila. Usage Sports The venue currently serves as the home arena of the Manila Stars franchise of both the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and the Pilipinas Super League.
