Parañaque Patriots
The Parañaque Patriots are a Filipino professional basketball team based in Parañaque. The team currently competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as one of 11 active teams based in Metro Manila. Parañaque is also one of four teams based in the Southern Manila District, playing their home games at Olivarez College Coliseum. The team is one of the MPBL's charter teams during the league's 2018 season. The team is currently owned by the City Government of Parañaque and its vice mayor Joan Villafuerte. As of 2023, the Parañaque Patriots is tied with the Laguna Krah Asia for the longest active playoff drought in the MPBL, with both teams having missed the playoffs since 2019. Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines. History Manny Pacquiao launched the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League on August 29, 2017, starting off as a semi-professional league. According to Pacquiao, the league is not intended to be a competitor to the Philippine Basketball Association, the country's top professional basketball league. The MPBL was intended to feature both a regional commercial and barangay-level league with teams on the commercial side to have a home locality in addition to a corporate sponsor. In the first months, the league hosted teams from Luzon with future plans to expand to accommodate teams based in Visayas and Mindanao like the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association.
