2022 World Qualification Event
The 2022 World Qualification Event for the World Curling Championships was held from January 18 to 22 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland. The competition originally consisted of sixteen teams divided evenly into men's and women's divisions. The Brazilian Men's Team and the Kazakh Women's Team were removed from the competition schedule days before the tournament due to travel complications, leaving the competition with fourteen teams divided evenly into each division. The top two teams in the men's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Men's Championship and similarly the top two teams in the women's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Women's Championship. On January 17, one day before the competition began, the Czech Republic women's team skipped by Alžběta Baudyšová had to withdraw from the competition due to two positive COVID-19 cases within the team. Cheng Kai-wen (; using "" as his registration until 2010, born July 26, 1988) is a Taiwanese professional baseball pitcher for the Wei Chuan Dragons of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). He has previously played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hanshin Tigers and Yokohama DeNA BayStars, and in the CPBL for the Chinatrust/CTBC Brothers. Nelson Wang (born 1950) is an Indian restaurateur of Chinese descent and the founder of China Garden, a restaurant, in Mumbai's Kemps Corner neighborhood. Various sources credit him with the invention of the popular Indian/Chinese dish "Chicken Manchurian". Personal life Wang was born in Kolkata. He is the son of a Chinese immigrant. The 2021 European Curling Championships were held in September and November 2021, to qualify European curling teams for the 2022 World Curling Championships and World Qualification Event. The A and B division competitions were held from November 20 to 27 in Lillehammer, Norway. The C division competition was held from September 12 to 17 in Geneva, Switzerland. 2021 Americas Challenge
The 2021 Americas Challenge is a curling challenge that took place from October 29 to 31 at Lacombe Curling Club in Lacombe, Alberta. The challenge was used to determine the second team from the Americas Zone to qualify for the 2022 World Men's Curling Championship, as the United States already qualifies as the host nation. It is the second time Canada has participated in the challenge, with their first being in 2018 where they defeated Brazil 3–0 in the best-of-five series. No women's challenge was held. Background The World Curling Federation allots two men's and two women's spots for the Americas Zone at the World Curling Championships. The 2022 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as the 2022 BKT Tires & OK Tire World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 19 to 27 at the CN Centre in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Prince George was originally chosen to host the 2020 World Women's Curling Championship, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
