2021 European Curling Championships
The 2021 European Curling Championships were held in September and November 2021, to qualify European curling teams for the 2022 World Curling Championships and World Qualification Event. The A and B division competitions were held from November 20 to 27 in Lillehammer, Norway. The C division competition was held from September 12 to 17 in Geneva, Switzerland. The top eight men's teams qualified for the 2022 World Men's Curling Championship. The host of the qualifier (Finland) and the remaining team in the A division as well as the top three teams in the B division qualified for the 2022 World Qualification Event. The top seven women's teams qualified for the 2022 World Women's Curling Championship. The next two teams in the A division and top two teams in the B division, not including the hosts, Finland, who automatically qualify, qualified for the 2022 World Qualification Event. Vicky Wright
Victoria Wright (born 15 August 1993) is a retired Scottish curler from Stranraer, and 2022 Olympic Champion in women's curling, playing third on Team Muirhead. Career Before playing for Muirhead, Wright curled for Hannah Fleming. She was the alternate for Scotland at the 2013 World Junior Curling Championships, where the team won a silver medal. She won the 2018 Scottish Women's Curling Championship as lead for Fleming to qualify for her first World Championship. At the 2018 World Women's Curling Championship, the team struggled, finishing the round robin with a 5–7 record. For the 2018–19 season, Wright joined team Muirhead as the alternate. Oskar Ingemar Eriksson (born 29 May 1991) is a Swedish curler from Karlstad. He currently plays third for the Niklas Edin rink. 2022 World Women's Curling Championship
The 2022 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as the 2022 BKT Tires & OK Tire World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 19 to 27 at the CN Centre in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. Prince George was originally chosen to host the 2020 World Women's Curling Championship, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The format for the Championship returned to a 13 team round robin opposed to the 14 teams qualified for the 2021 World Women's Curling Championship. The top six teams qualified for the playoff round, where the top two teams received a bye while the remaining four played the first round. 2022 World Qualification Event
The 2022 World Qualification Event for the World Curling Championships was held from January 18 to 22 at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland. The competition originally consisted of sixteen teams divided evenly into men's and women's divisions. The Brazilian Men's Team and the Kazakh Women's Team were removed from the competition schedule days before the tournament due to travel complications, leaving the competition with fourteen teams divided evenly into each division. The top two teams in the men's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Men's Championship and similarly the top two teams in the women's division qualified to compete at the 2022 World Women's Championship. 2022 World Men's Curling Championship
The 2022 World Men's Curling Championship was held from April 2 to April 10 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, United States. Team Sweden, skipped by Niklas Edin, was the defending championship team. The 2022 WMCC trialed the no-tick rule for the first time at a men's tournament at this level. In the final, Team Edin won its fourth straight world title, defeating Canada's Brad Gushue rink 8–6. It was the sixth career World title for Edin, whose team became the first ever to win an Olympic gold and World championship in the same year. In the game, Canada got off to a strong start, leading 3–0 after two. World Qualification Event
The World Qualification Event was an annual curling tournament first held in 2019 by the World Curling Federation. Eight men's and women's teams who had not already qualified for the World Curling Championships competed for the final two spots in the championships. The event was discontinued for the 2022–23 season with the creation of the new Pan Continental Curling Championships. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a world championship for wheelchair curling. Curling
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice toward a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called ''rocks'', across the ice ''curling sheet'' toward the ''house'', a circular target marked on the ice. European Curling Championships
The European Curling Championships are annual curling tournaments held in Europe between various European nations. The European Curling Championships are usually held in early to mid December. The tournament also acts as a qualifier for the World Championships, where the top eight nations qualify. In November 1974, a six-nations tournament was held in Zürich, Switzerland which included Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, and Norway. In March 1975, it was decided that the championships would be competed in December. Anna Ellinor Hasselborg (born 5 May 1989) is a Swedish curler who is the 2018 Olympic Champion in women's curling, and a former World Junior Champion skip. In November 2019, she became the first curler in history to reign as the simultaneous holder of the European Curling Championship gold medal, the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship gold medal, and the Olympic gold medal. Kristian Lindström
Kristian Lindström (born 4 November 1989) is a Swedish curler and coach, originally from Uppsala. Career Juniors As a junior curler, Lindström played in three World Junior Curling Championships. His first was the 2007 World Junior Curling Championships playing alternate for the Niklas Edin team which won a silver medal at the event. Lindström then played in the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships throwing last stones for Oskar Eriksson's team. The team finished in fourth place after losing to the United States in both the playoffs and the bronze medal game. The Eriksson rink would return to the World Juniors in 2011 with Lindström continuing to throw last stones. The team ran through the round robin in first place, with just one loss before winning both of their playoff games, including the final against Switzerland's Peter de Cruz.
