2019 WSBL Season
The 2019 WSBL season was the 31st season of the Women's State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 15 March, with round 1 seeing a 2018 grand final rematch between the Lakeside Lightning and Mandurah Magic. The 2019 WSBL All-Star Game was played on 3 June at Bendat Basketball Centre – the home of basketball in Western Australia. The regular season ended on Saturday 27 July. The finals began on Friday 2 August and ended on Friday 30 August, when the Rockingham Flames defeated the Warwick Senators in the WSBL Grand Final. Regular season The regular season began on Friday 15 March and ended on Saturday 27 July after 20 rounds of competition. Easter games in round 6 were again scheduled for a blockbuster Thursday night, with all teams then on a break over the long weekend. NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. Willetton Tigers
Willetton Tigers is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of Willetton Basketball Association (WBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the Melville/Canning region. The Tigers play their home games at Willetton Basketball Stadium. Alexandra Antonietta Ciabattoni (born 1 June 1994) is an Australian former professional basketball player and current coach of the South West Slammers of the NBL1 West. Early life Ciabattoni was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia. She attended Mary MacKillop College in the suburb of Kensington and played basketball in the Central ABL for the Southern Tigers and South Adelaide Panthers between 2010 and 2013. Kayla Maria Steindl (née Standish; born November 19, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Hobart Chargers of the NBL1 South. The Ellensburg, Washington native played four years of college basketball for Gonzaga before moving to Australia to play in the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Floreat, Western Australia
Floreat is a residential suburb west-northwest of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Mikayla Pirini (born 29 June 1996) is a New Zealand-born Australian professional basketball player. Career WNBL Born in New Zealand, Pirini grew up in Perth, Western Australia. She began her WNBL career in her home town, as a development player, with the West Coast Waves for the 2013–14 WNBL season. Pirini remained a team member for the following season. Kisha Lee (born July 11, 1985) is an American professional basketball player for the South West Metro Pirates of the NBL1 North. She played college basketball for UNLV. Samantha Issabelle Roscoe (born 23 October 1995) is an Australian-British professional basketball player for the Caledonia Gladiators of the Women's British Basketball League (WBBL). Ashleigh Isenbarger (née Grant; born 15 May 1997) is an Australian professional basketball player who last played for the Perth Lynx of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). Red Frogs
Red Frogs Australia is a Christian Youth charity run by volunteers known as the 'Red Frogs Crew'. The volunteers participate in many events that are attended by school leavers and university students, such as schoolies week, university parties, high school seminars, music festivals and sporting events. The Red Frogs Crew gained their name from handing out lollies named Allens' Red Frogs. Since 1997, Allens' has donated over 24 tonne of the red frog confectionery every year.
