2018 Wicklow Senior Football Championship
The 2018 Wicklow Senior Football Championship was the 118th edition of the Wicklow GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Wicklow, Ireland. The tournament consisted of 12 teams with the winner going on to represent Wicklow in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship consisted of a group stage before progressing onto a knock-out stage. Rathnew were the defending champions after they defeated Blessington in the previous years final. Hollywood made the straight bounce back to the top flight after claiming the previous season's I.F.C. title. Tomacork (an amalgamation of Intermediate club Carnew Emmets and Junior 'A' side Coolboy) were originally included in the S.F.C. draw on 19 January, however later made the decision to withdraw themselves from the competition before its commencement. The Wicklow Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Wicklow GAA between the top Gaelic football clubs in County Wicklow, Ireland. Tinahely Gaelic Athletic Association is a Gaelic football and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Tinahely, County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland. History GAA activity in Tinahely is first recorded in 1886. The club was revived as ''St. Patricks'' in 1911 and won their first senior county title in 1917. The club lapsed out of existence around 1924, being revived in 1961, which is the date on the current club crest. Aughrim County Ground, known for sponsorship reasons as Joule Park Aughrim, is a Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA stadium in Aughrim, County Wicklow, Aughrim, County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Aughrim County Ground is the name of the home of Gaelic Games for County Wicklow (Gaelic football, Hurling, Camogie, Ladies Football) team. The ground has a capacity of about 7,000. The name "O'Byrne Park" was occasionally used in the past, but this has never been the official name: this mistake that came about because of the Irish name for the local village of Aughrim, "Aughrim of the O'Byrnes" (''Eachdhruim UÃ Bhroin''). Éire Óg Greystones GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club with approximately 600 members and 20 different teams competing in Hurling, Gaelic Football, and Ladies Football in Wicklow League and Championship competitions. Kiltegan GAA Club (official title "Naomh Teagáin GAA club") is a GAA club located in Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow. The club was founded in 1964, and its catchment area covers the villages of Kiltegan, Rathdangan, and surrounding areas. The club is represented in youth competitions by the juvenile club Michael Dwyers which is a combination of the GAA clubs in Kiltegan, Ballymanus and Knockananna. Newtown G.A.A Club is a G.A.A. club to the north east of Newtownmountkennedy, in Ballinahinch in County Wicklow. The club is one of the oldest clubs in the country, being founded in 1887. The club currently has two adult teams, one contesting the Senior League and Championship, one contesting the Junior B League and Championship. There are also numerous underage teams, ranging from Minor (U-18) down to "Super Sevens" (U-8 and younger). History Newtown G.A.A Club was founded in 1887. St Patrick's GAA Club Wicklow Town is a Gaelic Athletic Association club with teams competing in Hurling, Gaelic Football, and Ladies Football in Wicklow League and Championship competitions. Blessington Gaelic Athletic Association is a Gaelic football, hurling, camogie and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Blessington, County Wicklow, Ireland. History The club was founded in 1909, initially playing its games in the Burgage near to the cemetery. The club crest depicts St. Mark's Cross, a high cross was moved to Burgage cemetery when its original home was flooded by the creation of Poulaphouca Reservoir. Blessington GAA won their first Wicklow Senior Football Championship in 1915. Blessington won both junior and intermediate county titles in 1979, following up that success with a second senior title in 1983.
