Newtown GAA
Newtown G.A.A Club is a G.A.A. club to the north east of Newtownmountkennedy, in Ballinahinch in County Wicklow. The club is one of the oldest clubs in the country, being founded in 1887. The club currently has two adult teams, one contesting the Senior League and Championship, one contesting the Junior B League and Championship. There are also numerous underage teams, ranging from Minor (U-18) down to "Super Sevens" (U-8 and younger). History Newtown G.A.A Club was founded in 1887. For a time in these early years they were linked with Rathnew and Ashford, but by and large they were on their own. Kiltimon, very close to Newtown, was also very active in the early days, and will be noted in the list of clubs for 1886. The first mention of Newtown was found on the 13 February 1887 when they played Wicklow in Newtown. Newtown was beaten by Ashford 0-5 to 0-1 on 8 May 1887. Newtownmountkennedy
Newtownmountkennedy () is a small town in County Wicklow, Ireland. It developed within the historic townland of Ballygarny () (now Mount Kennedy Demesne), although all that remains is a motte where a church, graveyard and a castle or tower house once stood just north of the town. It acquired its present name in the mid-seventeenth-century, when Sir Robert Kennedy, M.P. for Kildare, made it his principal residence. It is just off the N11 road to Wexford, just south of Kilpedder and south-west of Greystones. It is about north of Wicklow town, south of Bray and approximately from Dublin. The R772 regional road passes through the village. This was the main Dublin-Wexford route, the N11, but the village was bypassed by the new N11 dual carriageway in 1990. County Wicklow ( ; ga, Contae Chill Mhantáin ) is a county in Ireland. The last of the traditional 32 counties, having been formed as late as 1606, it is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and the province of Leinster. Paul McShane (footballer)
Paul David McShane (born 6 January 1986) is an Irish professional football coach and former player who is currently the Professional Development Phase coach at Premier League side Manchester United. Born in Wicklow, Ireland, McShane moved to England when he was 16 to play for Manchester United, with whom he won the 2003 FA Youth Cup. He had loan stints with Walsall and Brighton & Hove Albion before making a permanent move to West Bromwich Albion in 2006. He joined Sunderland a year later, but spent the 2008–09 season on loan to Hull City before making a permanent move there in 2009. He spent six years with Hull, broken up by loan spells with Barnsley and Crystal Palace, before joining Reading in 2015. The Wicklow Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic Athletic Association competition organised by Wicklow GAA between the top Gaelic football clubs in County Wicklow, Ireland.
