Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. The ' can be caught in the hand and carried for not more than four steps, struck in the air or struck on the ground with the hurley. An Tóchar () is a Gaelic football and ladies' Gaelic football club based in Roundwood, County Wicklow, Republic of Ireland. History ''Tóchar'' GAA club was founded on 8 August 1885 by Laurence Murphy of Togher House. Their first game was in March 1886 against Ashford. In 1886 they took part in a tournament at Avondale House, where six Wicklow teams played six Wexford teams; Tochar defeated Rosslare 0-4 to 0-0. The club declined and was replaced by a new team named ''Roundwood'', who won the Wicklow Senior Football Championship in 1933. Later a club called ''Ballinastoe'' was dominant in the area; the two teams merged to form ''Ballinastoe/Roundwood'', reviving the ancient name ''An Tóchar'' in 1981. In 1995, An Tóchar won the Wicklow Senior Football Championship and advanced to the final of the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship, losing to Éire Óg, Carlow after a replay. The 2017 Wicklow Senior Football Championship is the 117th edition of the Wicklow GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Wicklow, Ireland. The tournament consists of 13 teams with the winner going on to represent Wicklow in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship consists of a back door system. Baltinglass were the defending champions after they defeated St. Patrick's in the previous years final. The 2018 Wicklow Senior Football Championship was the 118th edition of the Wicklow GAA's premier club Gaelic football tournament for senior graded teams in County Wicklow, Ireland. The tournament consisted of 12 teams with the winner going on to represent Wicklow in the Leinster Senior Club Football Championship. The championship consisted of a group stage before progressing onto a knock-out stage. Rathnew were the defending champions after they defeated Blessington in the previous years final. Hollywood made the straight bounce back to the top flight after claiming the previous season's I.F.C. title. Tomacork (an amalgamation of Intermediate club Carnew Emmets and Junior 'A' side Coolboy) were originally included in the S.F.C. draw on 19 January, however later made the decision to withdraw themselves from the competition before its commencement. St Patrick's GAA Club Wicklow Town is a Gaelic Athletic Association club with teams competing in Hurling, Gaelic Football, and Ladies Football in Wicklow League and Championship competitions. St Patrick's GAA club is the only GAA club in Wicklow Town and has three men's football teams, Senior, Junior A and Junior C. They have nine juvenile football teams. They also have a senior hurling team and 3 juvenile hurling teams.
