Table Tennis
Table tennis, also known as ping-pong and whiff-whaff, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, also known as the ping-pong ball, back and forth across a table using small solid rackets. It takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Except for the initial serve, the rules are generally as follows: Players must allow a ball played toward them to bounce once on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side. A point is scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. Spinning the ball alters its trajectory and limits an opponent's options, giving the hitter a great advantage. Table tennis is governed by the worldwide organization International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), founded in 1926. ITTF currently includes 226 member associations. 2018 ITTF Men's World Cup
The 2018 ITTF Men's World Cup was a table tennis competition held in Paris, France, from 19 to 21 October 2018. It was the 39th edition of the ITTF-sanctioned event, and the third time that it had been staged in Paris. In the final, China's Fan Zhendong defeated Timo Boll of Germany, 4–1, to win his second World Cup title. Qualification In total, 20 players qualified for the World Cup: * 18 players from the five Continental Cups held during 2018 * A host association representative * A wild card, selected by the ITTF A maximum of two players from each association could qualify. As reigning World Champion, China's Ma Long was invited to take part, but withdrew prior to the event. Sarah Hanffou
Sarah Hanffou (born 8 October 1986, in Roubaix, France) is a Cameroonian table tennis player. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the women's singles. She beat Tvin Moumjoghlian in the preliminary round, before losing 4 - 1 to Xian Yi Fang in the first round proper. In November 2015, Hanffou received the Athletes in Excellence Award from The Foundation for Global Sports Development, in recognition of her community service efforts and work with youth. Dina Alaa Meshref (Egyptian: دينا علاء مشرف; born 10 March 1994 in Quebec City) is an Egyptian table tennis player who is currently world rank number 28 in ITTF, she is African number 1 table tennis player. She represented Egypt in the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics, and 2020 Summer Olympics.. She attended Futures American School and Roots School and had graduated from the American University in Cairo. Meshref comes from a family of table tennis players. Ahmed Saleh (born 14 November 1979) is an Egyptian table tennis player. He competed at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2008 Games he took part in the men's individual event, losing in the second round to Damien Éloi of France. At the 2012 Summer Olympics he competed in the men's team event. 2019 African Games Ahmed Saleh competed in the 2019 African Games in Men's Singles, Men's Doubles, & Mixed Doubles. In Men's Singles, Saleh defeated Kurt Lingeveldt (4-1) in the Round of 16 to advance to the Quarterfinals. He was then eliminated by eventual winner Olajide Omotayo in a close match, losing 6–11 in the seventh set. In Men's Doubles, the Egyptian Team of Ahmed Saleh & finished 2nd. Quadri Aruna
Quadri Akinade Aruna (born 9 August 1988, in Oyo, Nigeria) is a professional Nigeria table tennis player. He competed for Nigeria at the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics, reaching the quarter-finals in the latter competition. He is the first African player to be ranked in the top 10 in World Table Tennis. At the World Cup 2014, he reached the quarter-finals in the Men's Singles competition. In the 2017 ITTF World Challenge Bulgaria Open, he advanced to the semi-finals, where he was defeated in a tight match by the eventual winner Dimitrij Ovtcharov. Omar Assar (born 22 July 1991 in Desouk) is an Egyptian table tennis player. He won silver in singles and gold in team play at the 2011 Arab Games in Doha. He also competed at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics in the Men's singles, but was defeated in the second round on both occasions.
