2017 World Indoor Bowls Championship
The 2017 Just World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton on Sea, Great Yarmouth, England, on 13–29 January 2017. Paul Foster of Scotland won the open singles to claim his fifth world singles title and Katherine Rednall won her second women's singles crown. Jason Greenslade of Wales and Les Gillett of England won the Open Pairs whilst Nick Brett and Claire Johnston won the mixed pairs. Bowls
Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a bowling green, which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown green bowls"). Greg Harlow
Greg Harlow (born 6 July 1968) is an English international indoor bowls player. Bowls career World Indoor Championships Born in Ely, Greg Harlow rose to the world ranking of number one indoors during 2006. Despite being world number one it was not until 2007 that he won his first title at the World Indoor Bowls Championships. That victory was the mixed pairs at the 2007 World Indoor Bowls Championship with Jo Morris. His finest moment arrived when winning the 2010 World Indoor Bowls Championship where he defeated Stewart Anderson of Scotland in the final. A third title was won when he won the men's pairs with Nick Brett at the 2014. He repeated the success of winning the pairs with Brett again, when they won the 2020 World Indoor Bowls Championship open pairs title. James Rippey
James Rippey (born 1977) is a Scottish born international indoor and lawn bowler who has represented both Scotland and England. He was a regular qualifier for World Bowls Tour events and was ranked as high as world number 17. As of 2019, he was ranked 21 by the World Bowls Tour. Career Rippey won the Scottish national fours title aged just 17. He went on to captain the U25s England outdoor side and has won the English indoor Triples title. Jonathan Stewart Ross is a Northern Irish bowler who was born in Lisburn. He now represents Scotland after moving there. Bowls career He was part of the winning Irish Fours team in the 2004 World Bowls Championships held in Ayr, Scotland with Jim Baker, Neil Booth and Noel Graham. He also won the British Isles Singles titles in 2001 and 2002 and was the first Irish player to win the Scottish outdoors singles title. Andrew Edward Thomson Order of the British Empire, MBE is a former international lawn and indoor bowler. Known as Andy Thomson he was born in Fife, Scotland, on 26 November 1955, and represented Scotland before deciding to represent England. Bowls career Thomson won the Buckhaven Club Championship at the age of 16 and one year later was the Fife under-30 champion. In 1978 he won the Scottish junior indoor title. After moving to Kent he claimed the List of Bowls England champions, 1981 EBA national singles. He represented England at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, England in the singles, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Julie Forrest (born 3 November 1968) is a Scottish bowls player. Bowls career Outdoors Julie has won three World Outdoor medals, a silver medal in the fours at the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Johannesburg and two bronze medals as part of the Scottish team that competed in the Taylor Trophy. She also competed at the 1996, 2000 and 2016. She was selected to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and also won the Scottish National Bowls Championships pairs title in 1988 and triples title in 1997 bowling for Hawick. Stewart Anderson (born 23 July 1985) is a Scottish international bowls player and a world champion indoors. Bowls career He started bowling aged just 12 with Auchinleck Indoor Juniors and outdoor with Glaisnock Valley. Having previously been a beaten finalist in the 2010 World Championships (where he lost out to Greg Harlow) Anderson beat Paul Foster in the final match that ended 10-10, 10-9 to secure the 2013 World indoor title. In 2015 he won the triples gold medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships.
