Andy Thomson (bowls)
Andrew Edward Thomson Order of the British Empire, MBE is a former international lawn and indoor bowler. Known as Andy Thomson he was born in Fife, Scotland, on 26 November 1955, and represented Scotland before deciding to represent England. Bowls career Thomson won the Buckhaven Club Championship at the age of 16 and one year later was the Fife under-30 champion. In 1978 he won the Scottish junior indoor title. After moving to Kent he claimed the List of Bowls England champions, 1981 EBA national singles. He represented England at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, England in the singles, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Eight years later he partnered Gary Smith (bowls), Gary Smith in the pairs and they won a bronze medal at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. In 1993 he partnered Gary Smith as the pair won the World Indoor Bowls Championships Pairs title. Fife
Fife (, ; gd, Fìobha, ; sco, Fife) is a council area, historic county, registration county and lieutenancy area of Scotland. The English Bowls Association was the governing body of bowls in England until 2007. From 2008 onwards, Bowls England was formed, which now runs the sport. The national finals for bowls are held annually, where either 1, 2 or 3 representatives from each county compete for the national titles. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. 2013 World Indoor Bowls Championship
The 2013 World Indoor Bowls Championship was held at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, England, in January 2013. The event was sponsored by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines and was the 35th annual World Indoor Bowls Championships. The men's singles title was won by Stewart Anderson, while the ladies singles was won by Rebecca Field. The 2013 tournament saw the introduction of the shot clock, used for the first time at the World Championships. It was previously trialled at the 2012 Scottish International Open and has been used in Australia. Each player is allowed 30 seconds to play their shot, and if they run out of time, the hooter will sound and their bowl is removed. Alex Marshall (bowls)
Alex "Tattie" Marshall (born 8 February 1967) is record breaking Scottish bowls player. Marshall plays at Gifford Bowls Club (outdoor) and East Lothian Indoor Bowling Club. Marshall began bowling at the age of eight supported by both his father and grandfather and first represented his country in 1988. He is a record breaking six-time World Indoor Singles Champion. He has eight World Indoor Pairs titles to his credit (six Open Pairs and two Mixed Pairs). Marshall has won seven World Outdoor Championship Gold medals (Pairs in 1992, 2000 and 2012, Fours in 1992, and Team in 1992, 1996 and 2004). His other achievements include four Commonwealth Games Gold medals (Pairs in 2002, 2006 and 2014, and Fours in 2014), one Atlantic Games Team Gold (in 2015), and three Hong Kong International Classic Pairs titles (in 1993, 1996 and 2002). Ian John Bond (born 8 June 1973) is an English international lawn and indoor bowler. Bond plays for the Exonia indoor bowls club and the Crediton outdoor bowls club. Gary Andrew Smith (born 13 October 1958) is a former English lawn and indoor bowler and is the Chief Executive of World Bowls. He is not to be confused with the Durham indoor bowler Gary R Smith. Bowls career Smith partnered Andy Thomson when they won the 1993 World Indoor Bowls Championship Pairs. He started playing at the age of 15 and played for the Blackheath and Greenwich bowls clubs and the Cyphers indoor club at Beckenham. Smith also won the EIBA Pairs in 1986, 1991 & 1994 and Fours in 1983, 1984, 1988, 1990, 1992 & 1993. In 1988 he experienced Singles success after winning the EIBA Singles and one year later captured the 1988 CIS Insurance UK singles title.
