2012 Vale Of Glamorgan Council Election
The 2012 Vale of Glamorgan Council election took place on Thursday 3 May 2012 to elect members of Vale of Glamorgan Council in Wales. This was the same day as other United Kingdom local elections. The previous full council election took place on 1 May 2008 and the next one took place on 4 May 2017. Election result The Conservatives lost control of the council after losing 14 seats. The Labour Party became the largest grouping, but failed to win enough seats for an overall majority. This meant they could either run a minority administration or form a coalition with one of the smaller political groups. Conservative leader of the council, Gordon Kemp, lost his Rhoose seat to an Independent candidate after a recount. He blamed his party's poor performance on the UK Conservative coalition government. Castleland is an electoral ward in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It elects two county councillors to the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Description The Castleland ward covered an area of Barry southeast of the town centre including a large part of Barry Docks. Two county councillors were elected from the ward to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and two town councillors to Barry Town Council. According to the 2011 census the population of the ward was 4,852. In 2009 the ward was designated as a renewal zone, earmarked for improvements to housing and public spaces. Plymouth is an electoral ward in the town of Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It covers the more affluent part of the town south of the town centre. It stretches either side of Lavernock Road which includes Lower Penarth and Cosmeston (including Glamorganshire Golf Club and Cosmeston Lakes). Peterston-super-Ely is the name of an electoral ward in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, which covers its namesake village of Peterston-super-Ely and the neighbouring communities of Pendoylan and Welsh St Donats. Llantwit First Independents () are a political party created in 2004 who stand candidates for election in the town of Llantwit Major, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Their elected councillors sit on Llantwit Major Town Council and represent the Llantwit Major ward on the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Llantwit First Independents were registered as a political party on 19 March 2007 and re-registered in March 2017.
