Plymouth (Penarth Electoral Ward)
Plymouth is an electoral ward in the town of Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It covers the more affluent part of the town south of the town centre. It stretches either side of Lavernock Road which includes Lower Penarth and Cosmeston (including Glamorganshire Golf Club and Cosmeston Lakes). The ward elects two county councillors to Vale of Glamorgan Council and four councillors to Penarth Town Council. A majority of its councillors represent the Conservative Party. The name of the ward refers to Plymouth Road, and to the Earls of Plymouth, who were major landowners in the area. According to the 2011 census, the population of the ward was 5,836. Earl of Plymouth is a title that has been created three times: twice in the Peerage of England and once in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. History The first creation was in 1675 for Charles FitzCharles, one of the dozens of illegitimate children of King Charles II and one of a few by his mistress Catherine Pegge. He died without heirs in 1680, and the title became extinct. The second creation came in 1682 in favour of Thomas Hickman-Windsor, 7th Baron Windsor. The family descends from Sir Andrew Windsor, who fought at the Battle of the Spurs in 1513, where he was knighted. 2017 Vale Of Glamorgan Council Election
The 2017 Vale of Glamorgan Council election took place on Thursday 4 May 2017 to elect members of Vale of Glamorgan Council in Wales. There were 47 council seats available, across 23 wards. This was the same day as other United Kingdom local elections. The previous full council election took place on 3 May 2012, with the next full council election due to take place on 5 May 2022. Election result In winning 23 seats the Conservatives had a surprising resurgence, taking back the council from the previous coalition of Labour councillors and Llantwit First Independents. Alexandra was an electoral ward in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It elected county councillors to the Vale of Glamorgan Council at the 1995 and 1999 local elections. The Alexandra ward covered a large area of Penarth including the town centre and the more affluent southern part. Five county councillors were elected from the ward to the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Sully ( cy, Sili) is a village in the community of Sully and Lavernock, in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, lying on the northern coast of the Bristol Channel, midway between the towns of Penarth and Barry and 7 miles (11.3 kilometres) southwest of the Welsh capital city of Cardiff. Etymology Bilingual road signs at either end of the village announce ''Sully'' and ''Sili''. Although both forms could be considered to have unfavourable connotations, only the Welsh name has been controversial, as some residents have expressed the view that it belittles the village. Stanwell is an electoral ward in Penarth, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It elects two county councillors to the Vale of Glamorgan Council and three town councillors to Penarth Town Council. Dinas Powys is the name of an electoral ward in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. It covers its namesake community of Dinas Powys and the neighbouring Michaelston-le-Pit and Leckwith to the north. Penarth Town Council is an elected community council serving the town of Penarth in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Background Penarth has had a council of one form or another since the 1890s. Penarth Town Council came into existence in 1974 at the same time as local government reorganisation. Town councillors represent Penarth's views on various committees and to wider public bodies.
