The Copa del Rey de Baloncesto (English: '' King's Cup of Basketball'') is an annual cup competition for Spanish basketball teams organized by Spain's top professional league, the Liga ACB. History Originally known as the ''Copa de España de Baloncesto'', was first played in 1933 and contested in its first editions only by teams from the provinces of Madrid and Barcelona. It was the first nationwide basketball competition played in Spain. During the Francoism, it was referred to as the ''Copa del Generalísimo de Baloncesto'', before becoming the ''Copa del Rey de Baloncesto'' in 1977. Javier Salgado Martín, more commonly known as Javi Salgado, is a retired Spanish professional basketball player. Early career After being formed at Maristas school in Bilbao, Salgado started his career at SD Patronato in 1998. The next year, he signed with Baloncesto León, to play in the club's reserve team (Elmar León), in the Liga EBA, in that time the Spanish third division. Axel Marie Gustave Hervelle (born 12 May 1983) is a Belgian former professional basketball player. He represented the senior Belgian national basketball team. Professional career Hervelle spent the early part of his career in Belgium.
