The 2008 Swedish speedway season was the 2008 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 2008 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Avesta on 8 August. Magnus Zetterström won the Swedish Championship. The final was abandoned due to rain and the scores were taken after heat 16. Key *points per race - 3 for a heat win, 2 for 2nd, 1 for third, 0 for last U21 Championship Ricky Kling won the U21 championship. Team Team Championship Lejonen won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the first time in their history. Andreas Jonsson won the Swedish Championship for the second time. Magnus Karlsson (speedway Rider)
Magnus Erik Karlsson (born 28 December 1981) is a Swedish international motorcycle speedway rider who rides in the Premier League in the UK for the Leicester Lions. Family His two older brothers, Peter Karlsson and Mikael Max are both former Speedway Grand Prix riders.Bamford, R.(2007). ''Speedway Yearbook 2007''. All three brothers represented Sweden in the 2007 Speedway World Cup, with Magnus riding at reserve. Career Magnus had a successful start to his UK career. He first rode in the Premier League in 2002 with the Edinburgh Monarchs, but it was in 2003 he was part of the Premier League Championship winning team. In 2004 he moved on to the Hull Vikings, and was part of the team that won the League Championship, KO Cup and Young Shield treble. Magnus decided to join his brother Peter at Elite League Wolverhampton Wolves in 2005 where he recorded a 5.58 average in his debut season, including a paid maximum. Elit Vetlanda Speedway
Vetlanda Speedway were a motorcycle speedway team based in Vetlanda, Sweden. Earlier known as Njudungarna and VMS Elit, the club was formed in 1946, and arranged their first meeting three years later. In 2003 when the club was promoted to the top division of Swedish speedway league, the Elitserien Elitserien (literally, "the Elite League") is the name of several Swedish nationwide sport leagues. Dackarna
Dackarna is a speedway club from Målilla in Sweden who compete in the Swedish Elitserien. Their home track is at the Skrotfrag Arena which has been used as the venue for the Grand Prix of Scandinavia since 2005. History The team was founded in May 1935 as Målilla Motorklubb and in 1949 renamed itself Dackarna (in honour of Nils Dacke) and the club began league racing. Dackarna raced in the highest level of league racing in Sweden between 1951 and 1965, winning the league championship in 1957, 1958, 1959, and 1962, and finished as runners-up in 1956 and 1964. Dackarna switched between the first and second league for the next 30 years until 1997 when the team received the backing of a major new sponsor (Svelux) and were renamed Team Svelux. Svelux were taken over by Luxo in 2002 and the team name was changed to Luxo Stars. In 2006 the sponsorship deal expired and the team name reverted to Dackarna. Allsvenskan (literally, "The National League") is the second tier in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises seven Swedish speedway teams. Until the introduction of the Elitserien in 1982 the Allsvenskan was the highest level of Swedish Speedway. Vargarna
Vargarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Norrköping, Sweden. The team race at the Norrköpings Motorstadion. History The name Vargarna literally translates into English as "The Wolves". The team won the Swedish Speedway Team Championship five times 1949, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1960 and 1961. In recent years the club has moved up and down leagues from the Elitserien to the second tier of Swedish speedway, the Allsvenskan (National League). During the 2022 Swedish Speedway season the club reached the Allsvenskan play off final. Perhaps the club's most notable rider in recent years was the former world champion Nicki Pedersen, who signed for the team in 2010. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. Lejonen
Lejonen (the Lions) is a motorcycle speedway club from Gislaved in Sweden, who compete in the Elitserien. Their home track is at the OnePartnerGroup Arena which is Sweden's oldest track still in use. The club are two times champions of Sweden. History In December 1929 Gislaved Motorclub was formed and by 1931 the track was built. The track was originally wide and long but in 1936 it was widened to and during the 1980s the inside edge of the track was moved and the length was reduced to . In 1963 the Lejonen team began racing in Division Three and became the champions in 1965. Lejonen finished at the top of Division Two (the Allsvenskan) in 2007 and defeated Valsarna in the play-off final to gain promotion to the Elitserien for 2008. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway. Ricky Kling
Ricky Anders Kling (born 2 June 1987 in Virserum, Sweden) is a Swedish speedway rider from Sweden. Career Kling made his British League debut in 2007 with Oxford, but when they closed mid-season, he then joined Lakeside Hammers. He stayed with the Hammers for the 2008 Elite League speedway season, which was the same year in which he won the Swedish U21 title. Due to building constraints, he was forced to look elsewhere for the 2009 Elite League speedway season and joined the Eastbourne Eagles for two seasons. He the joined the Belle Vue Aces for the 2011 season and then Poole Pirates for the 2012 season. His final season in Britain was during the 2013 Premier League speedway season when he rode for the Plymouth Devils. In 2021, Kling made a one season comeback riding for Dackarna in the Elitserien.
