2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship
The 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship was held at the Northfield Bowls Complex in Ayr, Scotland, from 23 July to 7 August 2004 and Victoria Park, Leamington Spa in England one month later. Steve Glasson won the men's singles Gold defeating Alex Marshall in the final. Canada claimed the pairs, Scotland took the triples and Ireland won the fours. The Leonard Trophy was won by Scotland for the fifth time extending their impressive record. Originally the women's championships were going to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during 2003 but due to political reasons it was moved to England the following year. Jason Greenslade
Jason John Greenslade (born 6 March 1970) is a Welsh international indoor and lawn bowler. After moving to Guernsey in 2022 he later represented them in competition. Bowls career Outdoors Greenslade took up bowling at the age of eight after his parents (both Welsh internationals) introduced him to the sport. In 2001, he won the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic singles title. He has competed three Commonwealth Games in the 2002 Commonwealth Games at Heaton Park, Manchester (where he won a bronze in the fours, in the 2006 Commonwealth Games at the John Cain Memorial Park in Thornbury, Victoria, Australia and in the 2010 Commonwealth Games at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Delhi. Brett Duprez
Brett Duprez (born 1975) is a former Australian international lawn bowler. Bowls career Duprez won the gold medal in the pairs at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. He has twice won medals at the World Bowls Championship, a bronze in the pairs at the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship and a silver in the fours at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. Neil Booth
Neil Booth (born 19 February 1968) is a former Northern Irish international lawn and indoor bowler and bowls team coach and manager. Bowls career Booth has won three World Championship medals starting with the gold medal in the fours at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr with Jonathan Ross, Noel Graham and Jim Baker. This was followed by two bronze medals in 2012. In addition he has won four Commonwealth Games medals. He won the gold medal in the fours at the 1998 Kuala Lumpur with Gary McCloy, Ian McClure and Martin McHugh. He won a bronze in 2002, a silver medal in 2006 and another silver in 2014. Jonny Ross
Jonathan Stewart Ross is a Northern Irish bowler who was born in Lisburn. He now represents Scotland after moving there. Bowls career He was part of the winning Irish Fours team in the 2004 World Bowls Championships held in Ayr, Scotland with Jim Baker, Neil Booth and Noel Graham. He also won the British Isles Singles titles in 2001 and 2002 and was the first Irish player to win the Scottish outdoors singles title. Jonathan partnered Noel Graham to win the prestigious Hong Kong International Bowls Classic pairs title on a record equalling three occasions. Andy Thomson (bowls)
Andrew Edward Thomson Order of the British Empire, MBE is a former international lawn and indoor bowler. Known as Andy Thomson he was born in Fife, Scotland, on 26 November 1955, and represented Scotland before deciding to represent England. Bowls career Thomson won the Buckhaven Club Championship at the age of 16 and one year later was the Fife under-30 champion. In 1978 he won the Scottish junior indoor title. After moving to Kent he claimed the List of Bowls England champions, 1981 EBA national singles. He represented England at the 1986 Commonwealth Games, England in the singles, at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland. Robert Newman (bowls)
Robert Newman (born 1975) is a former English international bowls player. Bowls career Newman won three bronze medals in the World Bowls Championship. The first two in the triples and fours at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr followed by another bronze in the fours at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch. Mervyn King (bowls)
Mervyn John King (born 4 January 1966, in King's Lynn) is an international lawn and indoor bowler from Fakenham. Bowls career King has represented England at three Commonwealth Games, the 2002, 2006 and the 2010 Commonwealth Games where he won a silver medal, with Stuart Airey, in the men's pairs competition. Gary Raymond Lawson (born 19 October 1965) is a New Zealand international lawn bowler and a record 14 times New Zealand champion. Bowls career World Championships In 1996 he won the lawn bowls fours bronze medal at the 1996 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Adelaide. He won a silver medal in the triples eight years later at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship. In 2008 he struck double gold winning both the pairs and fours at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch. Sean Johnson (born 10 September 1972) is a New Zealand international lawn bowler. Rowan Brassey
Rowan James Brassey (born 18 January 1956) is a former New Zealand international lawn and indoor bowls player. Bowls career An earth-moving contractor by trade, Brassey's first national success was the 1980 New Zealand Open Pairs. He went on to win eight New Zealand National Bowls Championships titles in the pairs (1982) and the fours (1981, 1982, 1990, 1995, 2002, 2003 & 2012/13) when bowling for the Okahu Bay, Avondale and Cabramatta Bowls Clubs respectively. David Craig Peacock (born 30 January 1970) is a Scottish international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Peacock won the 2002 Hong Kong International Bowls Classic singles title. He claimed the triples gold medal at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Jim McIntyre and Willie Wood. Four years later he repeated the success when winning the triples at the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship with Wayne Hogg and Willie Wood.
