The 2004 Swedish speedway season was the 2004 season of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. Individual Individual Championship The 2004 Swedish Individual Speedway Championship final was held in Målilla on 3 July. Tony Rickardsson won the Swedish Championship for the seventh time. The final was held under the format whereby there was preliminary event, main event, semi final and final. Key *points per race - 3 for a heat win, 2 for 2nd, 1 for third, 0 for last U21 Championship Freddie Lindgren won the U21 championship for the second successive year. Team Team Championship VMS Elit won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship for the third time. The Vetlanda team included Rune Holta, Wiesław Jaguś, Aleš Dryml Jr. and Claes Ivarsson. Örnarna won the Allsvenskan after winning the play offs. Fredrik Lindgren (speedway Rider)
Jan Fredrik Tobias (Freddie) Lindgren (born 15 September 1985) is a Swedish motorcycle speedway rider. He has twice won the bronze medal at the Speedway World Championship and won the world team championships in 2015. Career Born in Örebro, Sweden. Lindgren's father Tommy was a speedway rider before him, and his younger brother Ludvig also rides. Lindgren first appeared for Wolverhampton Wolves during the 2003 season as the team struggled with injuries. At the age of just 17, Freddie made his debut for the team and impressed enough to be brought back the following season when again injuries hit the club. In 2005, he moved over to full-time and averaged 7.44 for Wolves in his debut full season and in 2006 he improved to average 8.12. Rune Holta
Rune Holta (born 29 August 1973 in Stavanger, Norway) is a speedway rider. He grew up in Randaberg Norway, but has been a Polish citizen since 2002, allowing him to represent Poland in international competitions and was a member of their Speedway World Cup winning teams in 2005, 2007 & 2010. He has also won the Polish Championship in 2003 and 2007. In 2020, he rode for Dackarna Malilla in the Swedish Elit League and for Włókniarz Częstochowa in the Polish Ekstraliga. In 2022, he helped PSŻ Poznań win the 2022 2.Liga. Awards For his sport achievements, he received: Golden Cross of Merit in 2007. Speedway Grand Prix Plane crash In 2007 Holta survived a plane crash with fellow rider Tomasz Gollob. The plane, flown by Władysław Gollob, crashed on the way to a meeting at Tarnów. Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") ( sv, Elitserien i speedway) is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top 7 Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. Elit Vetlanda Speedway
Vetlanda Speedway were a motorcycle speedway team based in Vetlanda, Sweden. Earlier known as Njudungarna and VMS Elit, the club was formed in 1946, and arranged their first meeting three years later. In 2003 when the club was promoted to the top division of Swedish speedway league, the Elitserien Elitserien (literally, "the Elite League") is the name of several Swedish nationwide sport leagues. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship is the team championship of speedway in Sweden. Season by season History The Championship was introduced in 1950. In 1982 the Championship was renamed with a new league called the Elitserien being introduced. previously the highest league had been known as the Allsvenskan but since 1982 it has been the second tier of Swedish speedway. Between 1986 and 1999 the team that finished top of the league were declared champions because there was no play off. Eric Andersson (born 15 June 1984) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. Career Andersson came to prominence when he reached the final of the 2004 Speedway Under-21 World Championship. In 2006, he joined the Oxford Cheetahs to ride in the 2006 Elite League speedway season. The following season he resigned for the Cheetahs but the club withdrew from the league but Andersson continued to ride for Rospiggarna In Sweden and in Grudziądz in Poland. He rode one heat in 2007 Speedway Grand Prix of Sweden, when he replaced injured Wiesław Jaguś in Heat 19. After finishing his career in Britain Andersson concentrated on the Team Speedway Polish Championship and rode from 2010 to 2014 for Kolejarz Rawicz in the Polish Speedway First League and Polish Speedway Second League respectively. Stefan Ekberg (born 21 January 1972 in Motala, Sweden) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. Career Ekberg is a full Swedish international, making his debut in 1994. He previously rode in the UK for the Oxford Cheetahs and the Eastbourne Eagles, where he won the Elite League Championship in 1995. He returned to the British Premier League with the Glasgow Tigers after a ten-year absence in 2005. In 2007, the Rye House Rockets signed Ekberg mid season to replace the injured Stuart Robson and the Rockets went on to become Premier League champions that season.
