Stefan Ekberg
Stefan Ekberg (born 21 January 1972 in Motala, Sweden) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. Career Ekberg is a full Swedish international, making his debut in 1994. He previously rode in the UK for the Oxford Cheetahs and the Eastbourne Eagles, where he won the Elite League Championship in 1995. He returned to the British Premier League with the Glasgow Tigers after a ten-year absence in 2005. In 2007, the Rye House Rockets signed Ekberg mid season to replace the injured Stuart Robson and the Rockets went on to become Premier League champions that season. Motala
Motala () is a locality and the seat of Motala Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with 29,823 inhabitants (41,956 in the entire municipality) in 2010. It is the third largest city of Östergötland, following Linköping and Norrköping. Elite League (speedway)
The Elite League was the top division of speedway league competition in the United Kingdom, governed by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB), in conjunction with the British Speedway Promoters' Association (BSPA). It was sponsored by Sky Sports until the end of the 2013 season. In 2016, the Elite League featured 8 teams, unlike 10 in 2014, during a season which ran between March and October. Each team had a designated race day on which they normally staged their home fixtures, and they regularly had home and away fixtures scheduled in the same week. Eastbourne () is a town and seaside resort in East Sussex, on the south coast of England, east of Brighton and south of London. Len Silver
Len Silver (born 2 February 1932, east London, United Kingdom) is a former speedway rider and is former promoter of the Rye House Rockets. Racing career Silver stopped racing in 1957 but returned to the Ipswich Witches in 1960 after a layoff due to injury. In 1961 he was transferred to Exeter where he skippered the Exeter Falcons and won the Provincial League Riders' Championship in 1962. Silver made 10 successful defences of the Silver Sash Match Race Championship. In 1964 he transferred to the Hackney Hawks as a rider/promoter but his riding career was cut short by serious injuries after a first bend crash at Hackney shortly after joining. Promoting career Silver continued as Hackney's Promoter and Manager until the demise of the Hawks in 1983, and also promoted at Hackney's sister track Rye House. Stuart Anthony Robson (born 8 November 1976 in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear) is a British motorcycle speedway rider. His brother Scott Robson also rode, as did his father John Robson. Career Stuart made his British racing debut in 1993, riding for the Newcastle Diamonds and in 32 matches he posted an average of 4.35. The following season was again with the Diamonds, where he averaged just under 5 points followed by a switch to Coventry in 1995 where he posted figures of 5.31. His 1996 season was split between Coventry and Middlesbrough, while in 1997 he joined brother Scott at the Hull Vikings in the East Riding of Yorkshire. The following season he returned to the top flight riding once again for Coventry in the Elite League, where he spent four seasons as a five-point averaged rider before a big year in 2003 when he pushed his average for the Bees up to just under seven points from 47 matches. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand).
