Television In Estonia
Television in Estonia was introduced in 1955, following the Soviet government's decision to establish a television station in 1953. The National TV Channel ETV has maintained an archive since 1955 in which broadcasts of unique aspects of Estonian culture are held. Northern Estonia receives television signals from Finland. During the 1970s and 1980s, Finnish broadcasts were more popular than Soviet-Estonian offerings until the Singing Revolution, with many Estonians enjoying ''Dallas'' and other programs portraying non-Communist lifestyles. Digital television was officially launched on December 15, 2006 when the operator Eesti Digitaaltelevisiooni AS launched its pay service ZUUMtv, operated by Starman, on two multiplexes. Tanel Padar
Tanel Padar (born 27 October 1980) is an Estonian people, Estonian singer and songwriter. He is best known internationally for winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2001. Padar became famous by winning the ''Kaks takti ette'', a biennial televised competition for young Estonian singers, in 1999. Career In 1999 Padar won ''Kaks takti ette'' a televised competition for young Estonian singers. In 2000, Padar was one of the backing vocalists for Eda-Ines Etti, Ines – who at the time was also his girlfriend – at the Eurovision Song Contest 2000. Dave Benton (born 31 January 1951, birth name Efrén Eugene Benita) is a pop musician from Aruba who lives in Estonia. He is one of the winners of the Eurovision Song Contest 2001. Eurovision Song Contest 2001
The Eurovision Song Contest 2001 was the 46th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, following the country's victory at the with the song " Fly on the Wings of Love" by Olsen Brothers. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Danmarks Radio (DR), the contest was held at the Parken Stadium on 12 May 2001. The contest was presented by Danish television presenter Natasja Crone Back and actor Søren Pilmark. Twenty-three countries took part in the contest. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, and Slovenia returned after their relegation from the previous edition. Greece also returned after their two-year absence, following financial trouble. Meanwhile, Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, Macedonia, Romania, and Switzerland were relegated. "Everybody" was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2001, performed in English by Tanel Padar and Dave Benton, along with 2XL, for . It was the first victory by one of the countries that debuted in the contest in the 1990s after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Wremja
''Wremja'' was an Estonian situational comedy showing the lives of lower class people. It featured campy humor, intentionally, so as to keep the budget low. Wremja was preceded by the '' Wigla Show'' featuring a similar style, and the name was later changed to "Sipelga 14", as a reference to the Estonian soap opera " Õnne 13". Characters Uuno Nisu (Nisu-Unn) (Dan Põldroos) is an alcoholic World War II veteran who fought for Germany and burned Hitler's corpse while drunk in 1945. Has a trademark red coat and ugly moustache.
