1973 Anglo-Italian Cup
The 1973 Anglo-Italian Cup was the fourth Anglo-Italian Cup competition. The European football competition was played between eight clubs from England and eight clubs from Italy and was the last professional Anglo-Italian Cup until it was re-incarnated in 1992. Format For the competition there were eight English teams and eight Italian teams. These teams were split into two groups consisting of four English and four Italian teams each. Each team played against the four teams in their group from the opposing nation. In each group, the best team from each nation progressed to the semi-finals. The semi-finals were two-leg matches played between each nation's group winners. The winner of each nation's semi-final then met in a final. Two points were awarded for a win and one point for a draw but, unlike the previous tournaments, points were no longer awarded for each goal scored. Anglo-Italian Cup
The Anglo-Italian Cup ( it, Coppa Anglo-Italiana, also known as the Anglo-Italian Inter-League Clubs Competition and from 1976 to 1986 as the Alitalia Challenge Cup, Talbot Challenge Cup or Gigi Peronace Memorial) is a defunct European football competition. The competition was played intermittently between 1970 and 1996 between clubs from England and Italy. It was founded by Gigi Peronace, following the two-team Anglo-Italian League Cup in 1969. The initial Anglo-Italian Cup was played as an annual tournament from 1970 to 1973. The first final was abandoned early due to violence, with Swindon Town declared the winners. During its time the tournament had a reputation for violence between fans, and also between players on the pitch. but it returned as a semi-professional tournament from 1976 before it was abolished again in 1986. Calcio Como
Como 1907, commonly referred to as Como, is an Italian football club based in Como, Lombardy, Italy. The club currently plays in Serie B, the second tier of Italian football, following promotion from the 2020–21 Serie C season. The club was founded in 1907 and the team's colour is royal blue. The Stadio Artemio Franchi is a football stadium in Florence, Italy. It is currently the home of ACF Fiorentina. The old nickname of the stadium was "Comunale." When it was first constructed, it was known as the ''Stadio Giovanni Berta'', after Florentine fascist Giovanni Berta. The stadium was officially opened on 13 September 1931 with a match between Fiorentina and Admira Wien (1–0), though it took until 1932 for the stadium to be completely finished and currently holds 47,282. The architect is Pier Luigi Nervi (known for the Nervi Hall in the Vatican) and it is one of the most relevant examples of 20th-century architecture in the city. David Craig (Northern Irish Footballer)
David Craig (born 8 June 1944) is a Northern Irish retired footballer. His position was right-back. He joined Newcastle United in 1966 and went on to make 460 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals. Franco Superchi
Franco Superchi (born 1 September 1944 in Allumiere) is a retired Italian professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career After starting his career with Tevere Roma in 1963, where he remained for two years, Superchi played for 13 seasons in the Italian Serie A with ACF Fiorentina, Hellas Verona F.C. and A.S. Roma. He joined Fiorentina in 1965. During his first three seasons with the club he was the third-choice goalkeeper and did not play any league games in the first two. In his fourth, the 1968–69 season, Fiorentina won the Italian championship, and the impressive performances by the rookie were integral to the team's success. He played seven more seasons for Fiorentina, never equalling the brilliance of the championship season, but always proving to be a reliable shot-stopper. He remained with the team until 1976. Jim Cannon (footballer, Born 1953)
James Cannon (born 2 October 1953) is a Scottish retired footballer. Along with several other promising young Scottish players he was signed as an apprentice for Crystal Palace in October 1970, by then manager Bert Head, having previously had a trial with Manchester City. He made a goalscoring debut on 31 March 1973 against Chelsea and went on to make 660 appearances for the club, beating Terry Long's record in the 1984–85 season. A cultured centre half who could also play at left back or in midfield, he eventually left the club at the end of the 1987–88 season (15 seasons after his debut), having been captain for the previous ten seasons, and initially joined Croydon F.C. and then in November 1988, Dartford. He also had a short spell with Bristol Rovers before finishing his football career in 1994 after three seasons at Dulwich Hamlet. John Tudor (footballer)
John Tudor (born 25 June 1946) is an English former footballer who played for Coventry City, Newcastle United, Sheffield United and Stoke City. Career Tudor began his football career playing for his local team, Ilkeston Town before turning professional with Coventry City. He scored eight goals in 17 matches in 1966–67 helping the "Sky Blues" win the Second Division title. He was not as prolific for Coventry in the First Division and after scoring just seven more goals he left for Sheffield United. He rediscovered his goalscoring form at Bramall Lane scoring 33 goals in 78 appearances which helped the "Blades" on their way to promotion in 1970–71. John Roland Craven (15 May 1947 – 14 December 1996) was an English professional footballer. He began his playing career as a defender, but also played as a centre-forward on occasion. He also played in the United States and captained the Vancouver Whitecaps, including in their Soccer Bowl '79 winning year.
