Manuel Pancorbo Chica (born 7 July 1966 in Torredelcampo, Jaén) is a retired track and field athlete. He competed in the middle distances. Gennaro Di Napoli (born 5 March 1968) is an Italian former middle distance runner. He won 13 medals at the International athletics competitions, 10 of these at senior level. Biography Di Napoli was born in Naples but moved early in his life to Lombardy, in northern Italy. He excelled in the distances from 800 to 3,000 meters. He won the silver medal at the European Championships in Split 1990 over 1500 metres. He missed out on a medal at the World Championships 1991. In 1992 Di Napoli scored a sensational victory over the world champion Noureddine Morceli from Algeria at the Golden Gala meeting in Rome. However, he got injured two weeks before the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, where he participated, but failed to reach the final. 5000 Metres
The 5000 metres or 5000-metre run is a common long-distance running event in track and field, approximately equivalent to or . It is one of the track events in the Olympic Games and the World Championships in Athletics, run over laps of a standard track. The same distance in road running is called a 5K run; referring to the distance in metres rather than kilometres serves to disambiguate the two events. The 5000 m has been present on the Olympic programme since 1912 for men and since 1996 for women. Prior to 1996, women had competed in an Olympic 3000 metres race since 1984. Viciosa is a former European record holder at 3000m and the first European man under 7:30. He won European Championships 1998 for 5000m, and was 2nd for 1500m at European Championships 1994. Dieter Baumann (, ; born 9 February 1965) is a former German athlete and winner of the 5000 m at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He also won the silver medal in the same event (5000 m) at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In 1999 Baumann tested positive for nandrolone and received a two-year suspension. Biography Born in Blaustein, Germany (then West Germany), Dieter Baumann was one of the few non-African athletes who were able to seriously challenge the African dominance of middle-distance running during the 1990s. Baumann was equally adept at both the 1,500 m and 5,000 m distances. Although Baumann came second in the 3,000 m at the European Indoor Championships in 1987, few considered him a medal chance at the 1988 Summer Olympics. 3000 Metres
The 3000 metres or 3000-metre run is a track running event, also commonly known as the "3K" or "3K run", where 7.5 laps are run around an outdoor 400 m track, or 15 laps around a 200 m indoor track. It is debated whether the 3000m should be classified as a middle-distance or long-distance event. In elite-level competition, 3000 m pace is more comparable to the pace found in the longer 5000 metres event, rather than mile pace. The world record performance for 3000 m equates to a pace of 58.76 seconds per 400 m, which is closer to the 60.43 seconds for 5000 m than the 55.46 seconds for the mile. However, the 3000 m does require some anaerobic conditioning, and an elite athlete needs to develop a high tolerance to lactic acid, as does the mile runner. Anthony William Whiteman (born 13 November 1971) is a male British former middle distance runner who competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics and in the 2000 Summer Olympics. Rüdiger Stenzel
Rüdiger Stenzel (born 16 April 1968, in Gelsenkirchen) is a former German middle distance runner who participated in several international championships in the 1990s. He came second in the 1992 German championships behind Jens-Peter Herold thus qualifying for the Olympic 1500 metres competition where he went out before the final. He then got his first international finish with a tenth place at the 1993 World Championships. In a race in 1994 he defeated the Olympic champion Fermín Cacho but finished seventh in the European Championships in Helsinki where Cacho won gold. Later that year, however, Stenzel won the silver medal at the IAAF World Cup behind Noureddine Morceli. Stenzel finished tenth at the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships and won a silver medal over 1500 m at the 1997 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Fermín Cacho Ruiz (born 16 February 1969) is a Spanish track and field athlete, winner of the gold medal in the 1500m at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and the silver medal in the 1500m at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Born in Ágreda, Spain, Cacho had an enviable competitive record in the 1500 m, but it wasn't until late in his career that he produced a time of corresponding quality. Cacho's first notable result came in 1990, when he finished second in the 1500 m at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
