1993–94 Iraqi National League
The 1993–94 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 20th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. The league title was won by Al-Zawraa for the fifth time in their history, and they also won the Iraq FA Cup to secure the double. The top scorer, Younis Abid Ali, set a record for the most goals scored in one Iraqi Premier League season (36) which still stands today. Al-Zawraa lost only one match out of 50, and were unbeaten for their last 38 matches consecutively. They went one more game unbeaten at the start of the 1994–95 season, completing a record 39-match unbeaten streak in the league; this record was equalled by Al-Shorta in 2019. Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. Al-Zawraa are the most successful club with 14 titles, followed by Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Talaba and Al-Shorta, who together contest the Baghdad derbies. Al-Amara SC
Al-Amara Sport Club ( ar, نادي العمارة الرياضي) is an Iraqi football team based in Al-Amarah, Maysan, that plays in Iraq Division Two. History In Premier League Al-Amara team played in the Iraqi Premier League for the first time in the 1988–89 season in the South Group, the club's name was Al-Hurriya at that time, and the team was not good enough, and eventually relegated to the Iraq Division One. Al-Umal Sport Club ( ar, نادي العمال الرياضي), is an Iraqi football team based in Al-Iskan District, Baghdad, that plays in the Iraq Division Three. History Premier League Play Overview Al-Umal was promoted to the Iraqi Premier League in first time in 1992–93 season, by a decision of the Iraq Football Association to replace Al-Tijara, which was excluded, after 46 games, adopting Al-Tijara's record at that point which was 10 wins, 18 draws, 18 losses, 39 goals scored, 55 goals conceded, 38 points. Karbalaa FC
Karbala Sport Club is an Iraqi football club based in Karbala that plays in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of Iraqi football. SWAT Incident On June 23, 2013, after a match against Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, seven football players of Karbala FC and their coach were beaten by the anti-terror police. They used sticks and batons against the coach and his players. Five of them were in critical condition, and on the 30th of June, Mohammed Al-Jaboury, coach of Karbala FC has died in hospital. Samarra Sport Club ( ar, نادي سامراء الرياضي) is an Iraqi football club based in Samarra. It was founded in 1973, that plays in Iraq Division One. Al-Minaa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الميناء الرياضي, lit=Port Sports Club) is an Iraqi multi-sport club based in Al-Maqal, Basra that participates in the Iraq Division One, the second tier of Iraqi football. It is one of the most popular clubs in Iraq, particularly in the south, and became the first club outside Baghdad to win the Iraqi Premier League. Al-Minaa was founded on November 22, 1931, in Al-Maqal. In 1974, the club was merged with another team called Al-Bareed to form a single club called Al-Muwasalat, and it was a strange situation because the Al-Bareed team were based in Baghdad while Al-Minaa were based in Basra and the two teams met in Baghdad on the day of the match only, so after just one season the club was dissolved and Al-Minaa returned in their place. Al-Karkh Sports Club ( ar, نادي الكرخ الرياضي) is an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team plays in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of the Iraqi football. The club's home stadium is Al-Saher Ahmed Radhi Stadium. Founded in 1963, Al-Karkh was not successful in reaching the top-flight of Iraqi football until Al-Rasheed SC's properties and place in the top division were transferred to Al-Karkh when Al-Rasheed were dissolved in 1990.
