Al-Amara Sport Club ( ar, نادي العمارة الرياضي) is an Iraqi football team based in Al-Amarah, Maysan, that plays in Iraq Division Two. History In Premier League Al-Amara team played in the Iraqi Premier League for the first time in the 1988–89 season in the South Group, the club's name was Al-Hurriya at that time, and the team was not good enough, and eventually relegated to the Iraq Division One. In the 1993–94 season, the team returned to play in the Iraqi Premier League, and at that time the name of the club was changed to Al-Amara, the team ended their season in twenty-first place and was able to continue playing in the league, and their results were not good, as it won 10 matches, drawing 16, and lost 24. Amarah ( ar, ٱلْعَمَارَة, al-ʿAmārah), also spelled Amara, is a city in south-eastern Iraq, located on a low ridge next to the Tigris River waterway south of Baghdad about 50 km (31 mi) from the border with Iran. It lies at the northern tip of the marshlands between the Tigris and Euphrates. It had a population of about 340,000 in 2002 and about 420,000 in 2005 and in 2020 they are about 1,100,000 . Iraqi Premier League
The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. 1988–89 Iraqi Pan-National League
The 1988–89 Iraqi Pan-National Clubs First Division was the 15th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974 and the first that was played in a group stage format rather than a round-robin format. The name of the league was changed from ''Iraqi National Clubs First Division'' to ''Iraqi Pan-National Clubs First Division''. Al-Rasheed won the title by defeating Al-Talaba on penalties in the final, to become the first team to win three Premier League titles in a row. During the regional stage, if a match ended in a draw, it would go to extra time and then penalties if necessary. A team would earn an extra point if they won a game by two goals or more after normal time. Penalty shootout wins earned one point. Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24. 1993–94 Iraqi National League
The 1993–94 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 20th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. The league title was won by Al-Zawraa for the fifth time in their history, and they also won the Iraq FA Cup to secure the double. The top scorer, Younis Abid Ali, set a record for the most goals scored in one Iraqi Premier League season (36) which still stands today. Al-Zawraa lost only one match out of 50, and were unbeaten for their last 38 matches consecutively. They went one more game unbeaten at the start of the 1994–95 season, completing a record 39-match unbeaten streak in the league; this record was equalled by Al-Shorta in 2019. The 1994–95 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 21st season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. The league title was won by Al-Zawraa for the second time in a row, and they also won the Iraq FA Cup for the third consecutive time. Half of the league's competing teams were relegated in order to result in a 12-team league for the next campaign.
