Al-Umal Sport Club ( ar, نادي العمال الرياضي), is an Iraqi football team based in Al-Iskan District, Baghdad, that plays in the Iraq Division Three. History Premier League Play Overview Al-Umal was promoted to the Iraqi Premier League in first time in 1992–93 season, by a decision of the Iraq Football Association to replace Al-Tijara, which was excluded, after 46 games, adopting Al-Tijara's record at that point which was 10 wins, 18 draws, 18 losses, 39 goals scored, 55 goals conceded, 38 points. In the end, the team managed to finish the league in 18th place out of 24 teams, after gaining 59 points. The Iraqi Premier League ( ar, الدوري العراقي الممتاز) is the top level of the Iraqi football league system. Contested by 20 clubs, it is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA) and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Iraq Division One. The league was formed by the IFA in 1974 as the Iraqi National Clubs First Division, the first nationwide league of clubs in Iraq. The current format sees 20 teams playing 38 matches each (playing each team in the league twice, home and away), totalling 380 matches in the season. Of the 80 teams to have competed since the inception of the league in 1974, eleven have won the title. 1992–93 Iraqi National League
The 1992–93 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 19th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. The league title was won by Al-Talaba for the fourth time in their history. The league was 69 rounds long (totalling 828 matches) in total, the most rounds in any season in the competition's history, with the Iraq Football Association (IFA) deciding that no player could play more than 46 matches. Players that had been selected for the Iraq national team were released for international duty by their clubs after round 24, after which they did not participate in any more league matches. After 46 rounds, the IFA decided to remove the four lowest-placed teams from Baghdad along with the lowest-placed team from outside Baghdad, and replaced them with five new teams to play the remaining 23 games in their place, with each new team adopting the record of the club they had replaced. Al-Tijara Sport Club (''Trade SC'', ar, نادي التجارة الرياضي ) is an Iraqi football club based in Baghdad, that plays in Iraq Division Three. History In Premier League Al-Tijara was founded in 1974 as Al-Iktisad as an amalgamation of Ministry of Trade teams, the most prominent of which were the Orosdi-Back team and the Al-Asha team. Al-Iktisad gained promotion to the Iraqi Premier League in 1975. The team played fifteen seasons in the Iraqi Premier League until 1992, first three seasons (1975– 78) from those, played in their old name Al-Iktisad. Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24. The 1994–95 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 21st season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. The league title was won by Al-Zawraa for the second time in a row, and they also won the Iraq FA Cup for the third consecutive time. Half of the league's competing teams were relegated in order to result in a 12-team league for the next campaign. Nadhim Shaker
Nadhim Shaker Salim ( ar, ناظم شاكر سالم; 18 December 1958 – 11 September 2020) was an Iraqi football player and coach of the Iraq national team. Playing career Nadhim Shaker was one of the most talented defenders in Iraqi football history. He began his playing career at Al-Amal in 1976 before moving to (Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya) the following year and played for the club until 1988, after which he became a player-manager for the Al-Salam club. He played for the Iraq national team from 1978 till 1986. The defender represented Iraq at the 1979 World Military Championship and at the 1986 FIFA World Cup finals in Mexico playing against Paraguay, Belgium and the hosts, Mexico. Managerial career On 8 December 2018, Shaker became the new coach for Erbil. He led the team in 17 games, winning five. He ended up leaving the team on 27 April 2019. 2020–21 Iraq FA Cup
The 2020–21 Iraq FA Cup was the 31st edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup as a clubs-only competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football, featuring 126 teams (20 from the Iraqi Premier League and 106 from the Iraq Division One and Iraq Division Two). It started on 20 October 2020 and the final was played on 19 July 2021 at Al-Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. The winners of the competition were Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, who won their fifth title with a penalty shootout victory over Al-Zawraa, becoming the first Iraqi club to win the double since the 2001–02 season.
