1980 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 1980 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 90th staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. Kilruane MacDonaghs were the defending champions. On 28 September 1980, Roscrea won the championship after a 3–11 to 2–13 defeat of Kilruane MacDonaghs in the final at Semple Stadium. It was their sixth championship title overall and their first title since 1973. It remains their last championship triumph. Eamon O'Shea
Dr. Eamon O'Shea (born 1958) is an Irish former hurler who played as a right wing-forward at senior level for the Tipperary and Dublin county teams. O'Shea began his senior career during the 1979 championship and was a regular player on the inter-county scene until his retirement after the 1986 championship. During that time he won one National Hurling League winners' medal. At club level O'Shea is an All-Ireland medalist with Kilruane MacDonagh's. In addition to this he has also won one Munster and four county club championship medals. A former coach of the Tipperary senior hurling team, O'Shea was appointed manager of the team in September 2012. O'Shea is currently based in Galway and works as the head of Economics at NUI Galway. John Stone (hurler)
John Stone (born 1958) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Roscrea and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Stone first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Roscrea club. He was part of the club's minor team that won three consecutive North Tipperary MHC titles from 1974 to 1976. Stone progressed onto the senior team and was at left wing-forward when Roscrea beat Kilruane MacDonaghs in the 1980 final. Stone first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Tipperary minor hurling team. He was at full-forward when Tipperary beat Kilkenny by 16 points in the 1976 All-Ireland minor final. Stone later won consecutive All-Ireland U21HC titles with the Tipperary under-21 team in 1978 and 1979. He joined the senior team for the 1980-81 season. Joe Tynan
Joe Tynan (born 1950) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Roscrea GAA, Roscrea and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Tynan first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Roscrea GAA, Roscrea club. He was part of the club's minor team that won consecutive North Tipperary MHC titles from 1966 and 1967, before later winning a Tipperary U21AHC title in 1968. By that stage Tynan had already joined the club's Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, senior team and won the first of seven North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, North Tipperary SHC titles and six Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, Tipperary SHC medals. Jim Williams (hurler)
James Williams (born 1952) is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Kilruane MacDonaghs and was also a member of the Tipperary senior teams as a dual player. Career Williams first played hurling and Gaelic football at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilruane MacDonaghs club. He won a number of divisional minor and under-21 titles in both codes and was also a member of the team that won the first of four consecutive Tipperary Under-21AHC titles in 1973. Williams made his first appearance for the club's senior team as a 16-year-old in 1969. He was at centre-forward on the Kilruane MacDonaghs team that won the All-Ireland Club Championship title in 1986, having earlier won four Tipperary SHC titles, including one as team captain, and a Tipperary SFC title in 1975. Seán O'Meara (1951 - 6 February 2010) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Kilruane MacDonaghs and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career O'Meara first played hurling and Gaelic football at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilruane MacDonaghs club. He won a North Tipperary U21AFC title in 1970 before captaining the under-21 hurlers to divisional honours two years later. By that stage O'Meara had already joined the club's senior team after making his debut in 1970. Career Williams first played Gaelic football and hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilruane MacDonaghs. Séamus Hennessy (hurler, Born 1956)
Séamus Hennessy (born 1956) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA, Kilruane MacDonaghs and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Hennessy first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA, Kilruane MacDonaghs. He is the only player to have lined out in six consecutive divisional under-21 finals and is one of only a handful of players to have won four consecutive Tipperary U21AHC titles with the club from 1973 to 1976. John Carey (born 1949) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Seán Treacys and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Carey first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Seán Treacys club. He was a part of the club's under-21 team that won their very first North Tipperary U21AHC title in 1970. By that stage Carey had joined the Seán Treacys senior team and won six West Tipperary SHC titles between 1968 and 1982. At inter-county level, Carey never played at minor level, however, he was drafted onto the under-21 team in 1970. He was a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team between 1975 and 1978.
