Gilbert Williams
Gilbert C. Williams (born 1953) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Kilruane MacDonaghs and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Williams first played Gaelic football and hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilruane MacDonaghs. He captained the club's minor team to the Tipperary MAHC title in 1971 before later winning consecutive Tipperary U21AHC titles. Williams was at left wing-back on the Kilruane MacDonaghs team that won the All-Ireland Club Championship title in 1986, having earlier won four Tipperary SHC titles and a Tipperary SFC title in 1975. Williams first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Tipperary minor hurling team in 1971. He later spent three seasons with the under-21 team, however, his underage career ended without success. Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA
Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "North-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the villages of Kilruane, Ardcroney and Cloughjordan. The club was founded in 1937 and is named after Thomas MacDonagh, a signatory of the 1916 Proclamation who was born and lived in Cloughjordan. The clubhouse and playing field are located in Cloughjordan. The finest day in the club's history was in 1986 when it won the Senior Hurling Club All-Ireland title, defeating Buffers Alley of Wexford GAA in the final by 1-15 to 2-10. The club incorporates many of clubs that existed in the parishes at the time. A forerunner to the MacDonaghs club was the famous De Wets formed in 1900. On 30 October 2022, Kilruane MacDonaghs defeated Kiladangan 2-20 to 1-16 in the 2022 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship final after a replay to win their first title since 1985. Honours * Al ... 1971 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship
The 1971 All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship was the 41st staging of the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1928. The championship ran from 16 May to 5 September 1971. Cork entered the championship as the defending champions. The All-Ireland final was played at Croke Park in Dublin on 5 September 1971 between Cork and Kilkenny, in what was their fifth All-Ireland final meeting overall and a first in two years. Cork won the match by 2-11 o 1-11 to claim their 11th All-Ireland title overall and a third title in succession. Cork's Pat Buckley was the championship's top scorer with 4-28. Kilruane MacDonaghs Hurlers
Kilruane (''Cill Ruáin'' in Irish language, Irish) is a townland and civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish in the historical Barony (Ireland), barony of Ormond Lower, County Tipperary in Ireland. It is located between Nenagh and Cloughjordan. Sport Kilruane MacDonagh's GAA club grounds are located nearby in Cloughjordan. Buildings of note The ruins of Kilruane Church of Ireland are still standing. Built with the assistance of the Board of First Fruits in 1820, the ruins display some detailed stone work. The remains of a medieval church stand within the graveyard. Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship
The Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the AIB Munster GAA Hurling Senior Club Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1964 for the champion hurling teams in the province of Munster in Ireland. 1979 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1979 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 93rd staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 27 May 1979 and ended on 2 September 1978. Cork entered the championship as defending champions, however, they were beaten by Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final. Kilkenny won the title after defeating Galway by 2–12 to 1–8 in the final. Teams A total of eleven teams contested the championship, one of the fewest participants in years. Only four team contested the Leinster series of games. Kildare, Laois and Westmeath withdrew from the provincial campaign, however, Laois did qualify for the All-Ireland series by winning the All-Ireland Senior B Hurling Championship. The GAA Hurling Under-20 All-Ireland Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bord Gáis Energy GAA Hurling Under-20 All-Ireland Championship) is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
