1978 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 1978 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 88th staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. Kilruane MacDonaghs entered the championship as the defending champions. On 15 October 1978, Kilruane MacDonaghs won the championship after a 2–14 to 2–13 defeat of Roscrea in the final at Semple Stadium. It was their second championship title overall and their second title in succession. Pat O'Neill (Tipperary Hurler)
Pat O'Neill is a retired Irish people, Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Cappawhite GAA, Cappawhite and with the Tipperary GAA, Tipperary senior inter-county team from 1987 until 1988. He captained the Tipperary team that won the National Hurling League 1987–88, 1988 National Hurling League, starting the final against Offaly GAA, Offaly at right half forward and scoring two goals and a point. Joe Tynan
Joe Tynan (born 1950) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Roscrea GAA, Roscrea and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Tynan first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Roscrea GAA, Roscrea club. He was part of the club's minor team that won consecutive North Tipperary MHC titles from 1966 and 1967, before later winning a Tipperary U21AHC title in 1968. By that stage Tynan had already joined the club's Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, senior team and won the first of seven North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, North Tipperary SHC titles and six Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, Tipperary SHC medals. John Stone (hurler)
John Stone (born 1958) is an Irish former hurler. At club level he played with Roscrea and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Stone first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Roscrea club. He was part of the club's minor team that won three consecutive North Tipperary MHC titles from 1974 to 1976. Stone progressed onto the senior team and was at left wing-forward when Roscrea beat Kilruane MacDonaghs in the 1980 final. Stone first appeared on the inter-county scene as a member of the Tipperary minor hurling team. He was at full-forward when Tipperary beat Kilkenny by 16 points in the 1976 All-Ireland minor final. Seán O'Meara (Tipperary Hurler)
Seán O'Meara (1951 - 6 February 2010) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Kilruane MacDonaghs and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career O'Meara first played hurling and Gaelic football at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilruane MacDonaghs club. He won a North Tipperary U21AFC title in 1970 before captaining the under-21 hurlers to divisional honours two years later. By that stage O'Meara had already joined the club's senior team after making his debut in 1970. He won a Tipperary SFC title in 1975 before later being part of the Kilruane senior hurling team that won three consecutive Tipperary SHC titles from 1977 to 1979. Tommy Butler (hurler)
Thomas Butler (1951 - 12 November 2020) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Drom & Inch and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a forward. Career Butler first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Drom & Inch club, as well as lining out with Templemore CBS. He made his senior debut at club level as a 15-year-old in 1966 and won two Mid Tipperary Championship titles in a career that spanned four decades. Séamus Hennessy (born 1956) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA, Kilruane MacDonaghs and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Hennessy first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA, Kilruane MacDonaghs. Francis Loughnane
Francis Loughnane (born 1945) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a wing-forward for the Tipperary senior team. Loughnane made his first appearance for the team during the 1968 championship and became a regular player over the course of the following decade. During that time he won one All-Ireland winner's medal, one Munster winner's medal, one National League winner's medal and three All-Star awards. At club level, Loughnane is an All-Ireland medalist with Roscrea. In addition to this he has also won two Munster club winners' medals and six county championship winners' medals.
