Francis Loughnane
Francis Loughnane (born 1945) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a wing-forward for the Tipperary senior team. Loughnane made his first appearance for the team during the 1968 championship and became a regular player over the course of the following decade. During that time he won one All-Ireland winner's medal, one Munster winner's medal, one National League winner's medal and three All-Star awards. At club level, Loughnane is an All-Ireland medalist with Roscrea. In addition to this he has also won two Munster club winners' medals and six county championship winners' medals. Playing career Club Loughnane played his club hurling with Roscrea and enjoyed much success in a senior career that lasted more than twenty years. He won his first county championship winners' medal in 1968, beginning a great era of success for the club. Willie O'Neill (Wexford Hurler)
William O'Neill (born 1945) is an Irish retired hurler who played as left corner-back for the Wexford senior team. Born in Kilmore, County Wexford, O'Neill first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty when he first linked up with the Limerick under-21 team. He made his senior debut during the 1965 championship. O'Neill immediately became a regular member of the team and won one Leinster medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on one occasion. At club level O'Neill played with Kilmore-Rathangan. Throughout his career O'Neill made 5 championship appearances. Mick Cowan
Michael Cowan (1948 – 10 May 2010) was an Irish hurler who played as a left wing-forward for the Tipperary senior team. Regarded as one of Tipperary's most versatile players ever, Cowan joined the team during the 1969 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1977 championship. His career coincided with a sharp downturn in the fortunes of the team, and he ended his playing days without any success. Roger Ryan
Roger P. Ryan (1944 - 11 May 2009) was an Irish hurler and selector. At club level he played with Toomevara and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Playing career Ryan first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Toomevara club. He joined the club's senior team as a 17-year-old in 1962 and won a North Tipperary SHC in his first year with the team. Ryan never played at minor or under-21 levels with Tipperary, however, he joined the senior team during the 1969-70 National League. He was at full-forward when Tipperary beat Kilkenny in the 1971 All-Ireland final. Ryan continued to line out with the Tipperary senior team until 1976. Mick Roche
Michael Roche (8 October 1943 – 7 December 2016) was an Irish hurler whose league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team spanned twelve seasons from 1963 to 1974. He is regarded as one of the greatest centre-backs of all time, in spite of spending much of playing career in his favoured position of midfield. Born near Carrickbeg, County Tipperary, Roche was raised in a household that had a strong association with Gaelic games. His father was a founder-member of the Carrick Davins club and had played Gaelic football for Tipperary. He first came to prominence as a hurler as a member of the St. Molleran's minor team that won the county minor championship title with 1959. This article lists players who have recently captained the Tipperary county hurling team in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The captain is normally chosen from the club that has won the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship. This did not happen in 1989. In that year Loughmore Castleiney were the reigning county hurling champions but did not hold the captaincy during the championship as none of their players were deemed good enough to make the team. In 1989 therefore Pat McGrath of Loughmore Castleiney was the captain during the National Hurling League and Bobby Ryan of Borris-Ileigh was the captain during the Championship.
