Mick Roche
Michael Roche (8 October 1943 – 7 December 2016) was an Irish hurler whose league and championship career with the Tipperary senior team spanned twelve seasons from 1963 to 1974. He is regarded as one of the greatest centre-backs of all time, in spite of spending much of playing career in his favoured position of midfield. Born near Carrickbeg, County Tipperary, Roche was raised in a household that had a strong association with Gaelic games. His father was a founder-member of the Carrick Davins club and had played Gaelic football for Tipperary. He first came to prominence as a hurler as a member of the St. Molleran's minor team that won the county minor championship title with 1959. Carrickbeg
Carrickbeg () is a village in County Tipperary, Ireland. Located on the border between counties Waterford and Tipperary, it comprises part of the town of Carrick-on-Suir that lies south of the River Suir. The area is in County Tipperary, but a minority of residents have an affinity for County Waterford, as well as it previously being a part of Waterford. Carrickbeg came to national attention in 2008 when the winning ticket for a €15 million EuroMillions jackpot was sold in the village. All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling Intermediate All-Ireland Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Effectively contested by the second string teams of the top inter-county hurling sides in Ireland, the tournament has taken place every year since 1997—having originally been run between 1961 and 1973. The final, currently held in July, serves as the culmination of a series of games played during the early summer, and the results determine which team receives the Michael Cusack Cup. London GAA
The London County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Londain) or London GAA is one of the county boards outside Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in London. The county board is also responsible for the London county teams and schools. The county football team compete in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship on an annual basis, the only English based team to do so. They participate through in the Connacht Senior Football Championship as the Irish community in London are considered as part of the province of Connacht. Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Munster Hurling Intermediate Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1961 for the strong hurling teams in the province of Munster in Ireland. In some cases the teams consist of players who are not on the senior squads for their county (thus in effect, they are a second team), or in others of players who are from junior or intermediate clubs. The competition was established to prevent the stronger counties from dominating the Munster Junior Hurling Championship. The series of games are played during the summer months with the Munster final currently being played in July. The prize for the winning team is the Sweet Afton Cup. Billy Ryan (hurler)
Billy Ryan (born 21 July 1996) is an Irish hurler who plays for Kilkenny Intermediate Championship club Graigue–Ballycallan and at inter-county level with the Kilkenny senior hurling team. He usually lines out as a centre-forward. Playing career St. Kieran's College Ryan first came to prominence as a hurler with St. Kieran's College in Kilkenny. Having played in every grade as a hurler, he was eventually called up the college's senior team. On 9 March 2014, Ryan scored a point from right corner-forward when St. Kieran's College suffered a 2-13 to 0-13 defeat by Kilkenny CBS in the Leinster final. On 5 April 2014, Ryan was dropped from the starting fifteen for the All-Ireland final against Kilkenny CBS. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). Since 1891 the site has been used by the GAA to host Gaelic sports, including the annual All-Ireland in Gaelic football and hurling. The Gaelic Athletic Association-Gaelic Players' Association All Stars Awards (often known simply as the All Stars) are awarded annually to the best player in each of the 15 playing positions in Gaelic football and hurling. Additionally, one player in each code is selected as Player of the Year. The awards were instituted in 1971. Since 2011 they have been presented jointly by the Gaelic Athletic Association and the representative body for inter-county players, the Gaelic Players Association. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling).
