Brantford
Brantford (Canada 2021 Census, 2021 population: 104,688) is a city in Ontario, Canada, founded on the Grand River (Ontario), Grand River in Southwestern Ontario. It is surrounded by County of Brant, Brant County, but is politically separate with a municipal government of its own that is fully independent of the county's municipal government. Brantford is situated on the Haldimand Tract, traditional territory of the Neutral Nation, Neutral, Mississaugas, Mississauga, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The city is named after Joseph Brant, an important Mohawk leader, soldier, farmer and slave owner. Charles Bowen (Ontario Politician)
Charles R. Bowen (1923 – May 17, 1992) was a politician in the Canadian province of Ontario. He served as mayor of Brantford from 1973 to 1980. Bowen was born in Oshawa and served in the Canadian army for five years during World War II. He graduated from the Canadian Institute of Science and Technology as a mechanical engineer. Bowen later received a Theology degree from McMaster University in 1977 and was ordained at the city's First Baptist Church later in the year. Bowen first ran for municipal office in Brantford in 1958 and was first elected to council in 1963, when he won a seat in Brantford's fifth ward. He served as a councillor until being elected as mayor of Brantford in the 1972 municipal election. He was re-elected in 1974, 1976, and 1978. Chris Friel (politician)
Chris Friel (born February 26, 1967) is a politician in the Canadian province of Ontario. He was the mayor of Brantford from 1994 to 2003 and was re-elected to the same position in the 2010 municipal election. He was defeated in the 2018 municipal election by Kevin Davis. Early life and private career Friel was born and raised in Brantford. He has an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Waterloo (1989). Before running for office, he was the executive director of a non-profit government agency. Both of his parents were active in politics. His father, James Friel, was involved in the labour movement and ran for a trustee position on the Brant County Board of Education in 1976. The 2010 Brantford municipal election was held on October 25, 2010, to elect a mayor, city councillors, and school trustees in the city of Brantford, Ontario. Results *John Sless has worked at the Brantford Charity Casino and as an independent consultant. He ran for the Brantford city council in 1974 and 1976 and was defeated both times; on the latter occasion, he was backed by the United Auto Workers.
