1974 Little League World Series
The Little League World Series took place between August 20 and August 24 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Kaohsiung Little League of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, defeated the Red Bluff Little League of Red Bluff, California, in the championship game of the 28th Little League World Series. This was the fourth consecutive title for Taiwan. It remains is the second-longest winning streak by any single country or U.S. state (the longest winning streak is five, also by Taiwan, during 1977–1981). After this series, foreign teams were banned from the competition; however, the ban was rescinded one year later, allowing foreign teams to qualify for the series. Foreign teams have continued to participate in each edition of the tournament, except for due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Asia–Pacific and Middle East Region is a region that competes in the Little League World Series. Asian teams first competed in the LLWS in , when Japanese teams competed in the original Pacific Region (which included Hawaii). The South Region was a region that competed in the Little League World Series between 1957 and 2000 until it was split into the Southwest and Southeast regions in 2001. The South Region was inaugurated in 1957. The Region originally consisted of teams from Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. In 1957, the Industrial Little League of Monterrey, Mexico won the South Region championship before Latin America was given its own berth starting with the 1958 LLWS. Ellinikon International Airport, sometimes spelled ''Hellinikon'' ( el, Ελληνικόν), was the international airport of Athens, Greece, for 63 years. Europe first participated in the Little League World Series in . Teams from Europe were given a berth in the LLWS each year between 1960 and 2000 (with the exception of the temporary ban of international teams in ). In 2001, the region was split into two co-terminus regions: Europe (later EMEA) Region and Transatlantic Region. The Europe Region comprised mostly native European teams while the Transatlantic Region comprised mostly American expatriates. The East Region was a region that competed in the Little League World Series between 1957 and 2000, until it was split into the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions in 2001.
