The league was previously known as the Uganda Super League but changed in the 2014–15 season after new management taking over. The league's roots date back to 1968 when the National First Division League was established. History Original concept The genesis of club football in Uganda was an idea copied from England by Balamaze Lwanga and Polycarp Kakooza. 	Ali Kitonsa Ali Kitonsa (12 May 1939 – 23 March 2013) was a Ugandan footballer who played as a striker. He is known as the first professional Ugandan footballer and regarded as one of the greatest players in Ugandan football history. Club career Ali Kitonsa was one of the first players to be signed by Express founder Joseph "Jolly Joe" Kiwanuka, who spotted Kitonsa when Kitonsa was playing for King's College Buddo Secondary School. Thanks to his goals, the Red Eagles achieved promotion to the top flight in 1961. Kitonsa unofficially holds the record for the highest number goals in the Uganda Premier League in one season: 54 goals in 18 games as Express won the 1964 Kampala First Division League. The following season, Kitonsa signed with Zamalek SC, becoming the first professional Ugandan footballer. 	Express FC Express Football Club, abbreviated as Express, is a Ugandan football club from Kampala, the largest city and capital of Uganda. The club play their home games at the Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium. History Express FC is popularly referred to by the club fans as the Red Eagles and has also been known as the Express Sports Club. The club is one of the oldest football clubs in Uganda, having been founded in October 1957 by managers of the Uganda Express Newspapers. 	Police FC (Uganda) Police FC is a football club from Kampala in Uganda. History They have won their first Ugandan league title in 2005 and the CECAFA Clubs Cup in 2006. Police was spurred on in the early years by Dennis Obua as a player and later as coach. During Obua's years, he managed to stage youthful players who have blossomed into really great talent. When Obua became the Federation of Uganda Football Association president, he hired Steven Mulinde to step in his shoes. Police saw tremendous growth and lately has been involved in several international ties. As of November 2019, the main stadium for Police FC is the Star Times Stadium. Located in the area of Lugogo.
