Lene Hau
Lene Vestergaard Hau (; born November 13, 1959) is a Danish physicist and educator. She is the Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics and of Applied Physics at Harvard University. In 1999, she led a Harvard University team who, by use of a Bose–Einstein condensate, succeeded in slowing a beam of light to about 17 metres per second, and, in 2001, was able to stop a beam completely. Later work based on these experiments led to the transfer of light to matter, then from matter back into light, a process with important implications for quantum encryption and quantum computing. More recent work has involved research into novel interactions between ultracold atoms and nanoscopic-scale systems. In addition to teaching physics and applied physics, she has taught Energy Science at Harvard, involving photovoltaic cells, nuclear power, batteries, and photosynthesis. In addition to her own experiments and research, she is often invited to speak at international conferences, and is involve ...

Pin-up Girl
A pin-up model (known as a pin-up girl for a female and less commonly male pin-up for a male) is a model whose mass-produced pictures see widespread appeal as part of popular culture. Pin-up models were variously glamour models, fashion models, or actresses whose pictures were intended for informal display, i.e. meant to be "''pinned-up''" on a wall, which is the basis for the etymology of the phrase. These pictures are also sometimes known as cheesecake photos. The term ''pin-up'' may refer to drawings, paintings, and other illustrations as well as photographs. The term was first attested to in English in 1941 even though the practice is documented at least back to the 1890s. Pin-up images could be cut out of magazines or newspapers, or they could be on a postcard or lithograph. ...

Dagmar Hansen
Dagmar Julie Augusta Hansen (12 November 1871 – 13 April 1959), a Danish cabaret-singer and stage-performer, became a national sensation as Denmark's first "pin-up girl". Early years Hansen, born 1871 in Rungsted, Denmark, as the daughter of a blacksmith. showed promising stage talent at an early age. She made her stage debut at the age of 11 in the role of a child general in the fantasy play ''Tommeliden'' at the Casino Theater in Copenhagen. She also began singing in the Saint Stefan's Church choir at the age of 13. Hansen matured physically at an early age as well, and she received her confirmation one year earlier than usual. Her mature physical appearance allowed her to join a theater revue at 14 years of age. Her performances won critical praise in the press for her enjoyable singing voice, charming presence, and well-developed fig ...
