1958 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1958 took place 2-9 March 1958 in Lahti, Finland. This marked the third time the city hosted this event having done so in 1926 and 1938. Germany returned to the FIS Nordic Ski Championships for the first time officially since 1939, albeit as East Germany and West Germany. Additionally, it was the first championships to electronic timekeeping where results were timed to the tenth of a second rather than the full second. Lahti
Lahti (; sv, Lahtis) is a city and municipality in Finland. It is the capital of the region of Päijänne Tavastia (Päijät-Häme) and its growing region is one of the main economic hubs of Finland. Lahti is situated on a bay at the southern end of lake Vesijärvi about north-east of the capital city Helsinki, south-west of the Heinola town and east of Hämeenlinna, the capital of the region of Tavastia Proper (Kanta-Häme). Per-Erik Larsson
Per-Erik Larsson (3 May 1929 – 31 May 2008) was a Swedish cross-country skier who competed at the 1956 and 1960 Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay and finished seventh in the individual 30 km race in 1956. In the 15 km event he placed 12th and 17th in 1956 and 1960, respectively. Paavo Korhonen
Paavo Jaakko Matias Korhonen (5 June 1928 – 29 September 2019) was a Finnish Nordic skier who won the individual titles at the 1957 Holmenkollen ski festival and 1958 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. He competed at the 1952, 1956 and 1960 Olympics and placed fourth, fourth and ninth, respectively. Sonja Edström
Sonja Viola Edström-Ruthström (''Edström'' before 1960, 18 November 1930 – 15 October 2020) was a Swedish cross-country skier. She competed at the 1952, 1956, and 1960 Olympics in the 10 km and 3 × 5 km relay events and won bronze medals in both in 1956; in 1960 she finished fifth in the 10 km, but won the 3 × 5 km relay. Irma Johansson
Irma Elina Johansson (later ''Öberg'', born 3 April 1932) is a former Swedish cross-country skier. She competed at the 1956 and 1960 Olympics in the 3 × 5 km relay and 10 km events and won two medals in the relay, with a gold in 1960 and a bronze in 1956. Individually she finished in 7–8th place. Siiri Rantanen
Siiri Johanna "Äitee" Rantanen ( Lintunen, born 14 December 1924) is a Finnish retired cross-country skier. She competed in the 1952, 1956 and 1960 Olympics and won a medal in each of them: a gold and a bronze in the 3 × 5 km relay in 1956–60 and another bronze in the individual 10 km in 1952; she placed fifth and 15th over 10 km in 1956 and 1960, respectively. Lyubov Vladimirovna Kozyreva (russian: Любо́вь Влади́мировна Ко́зырева), Lyubov Baranova from 1960 onwards (27 August 1929 – 22 June 2015), was a Soviet cross-country skier who competed in the 1950s and 1960s with VSS Burevestnik. Alevtina Kolchina
Alevtina Pavlovna Kolchina (russian: Алевти́на Па́вловна Ко́лчина alternate spelling: Alevtina Koltsjina; 11 November 1930 – 1 March 2022) was a Soviet cross-country skier who competed during the 1950s and 1960s for Burevestnik and later for Dynamo sports societies. She competed in four Winter Olympics, earning a total of five medals.
