Frederick IX Of Denmark
Frederick IX ( da, Christian Frederik Franz Michael Carl Valdemar Georg; 11 March 1899 – 14 January 1972) was List of Danish monarchs, King of Denmark from 1947 to 1972. Born into the House of Glücksburg, Frederick was the elder son of Christian X of Denmark, King Christian X and Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Queen Alexandrine of Denmark. He became crown prince when his father succeeded as king in 1912. As a young man, he was educated at the Royal Danish Naval Academy. In 1935, he was married to Princess Ingrid of Sweden and they had three daughters, Margrethe II of Denmark, Margrethe, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Anne-Marie. During Denmark in World War II, Nazi Germany's occupation of Denmark, Frederick acted as regent on behalf of his father from 1942 until 1943. Lene Køppen
Lene Køppen (born 5 May 1953) is a former badminton player from Denmark who won numerous Danish national and major international championships from the early 1970s through the early 1980s. Noted for her speed and athleticism, she and Camilla Martin are the only Danish women to win both the World (1977) and All-England (1979, 1980) singles titles. In the first IBF World Championships in 1977 she captured mixed doubles (with Steen Skovgaard) as well as women's singles to become the first of only seven players, through 2010, to win two events in the same edition of this tournament. Aage Rafn
Aage Rafn (21 April 1890 - 7 May 1953) was a Danish architect and designer. He headed Kunsthåndværkerskolen in Copenhagen from 1924. Early life and education Rafn was born on 21 April 1890 in Copenhagen, the son off Carl Hjalmar Rafn (1848-1919) and Anna Elisabeth Albertine Kaper (1867-1942).His father served as headmaster of the Metropolitan School from 1902 to 1918. His paternal grandfather was the antiquarian and publisher, writer and publisher Carl Christian Rafn. Rafn matriculated from Metropolitanskolen in 1908. He enrolled at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1909 and graduated from Kunstakademiets Arkitektskole in 1919. He won the academy's great gold medal in 1921. Career Already as students, Rafn and Kay Fisker won 2nd prize in am architectural competition to design the stations on a new railway on Bornholm. Morten Pedersen Porsild
Morten Pedersen Porsild (1 September 1872, Glibstrup near Store Andst – 30 April 1956, Copenhagen) was a Danish botanist who lived and worked most of his adult life in Greenland. He participated in expeditions to Greenland in 1898 and 1902, together with the physiologist August Krogh. In 1906, he founded the Arctic Station in Qeqertarsuaq, West Greenland, since 1956 part of the University of Copenhagen. He got support from famous polar researchers like Knud Rasmussen, Mylius-Erichsen and Fridtjof Nansen. A private person donated the building and running cost were put directly on the Danish state budget. Morten Porsild managed the station for forty years. In 1946, he returned to Copenhagen, and was succeeded as station head by Paul Gelting. Carl Brummer
Carl Harald Brummer (12 July 1864 – 14 February 1953) was a Danish architect who was influential in the design of homes at the beginning of the 20th century. Biography Brummer was born in Bogense. After attending the Danish Academy from 1888 to 1896, he worked for Ferdinand Meldahl and Hermann Baagøe Storck. He initially became known for Ellestuen, a freely designed country home which was quite different from conventional houses in Denmark. He soon became one of the leading Danish architects for designing private homes between the beginning of the 20th century and the First World War including Svanemøllevej 56 (1904) and Lundevangsvej 12 (1908), both in Copenhagen. He also drew on architecture from the late 18th century, for example in designing Heymans Villa in 1907 before adopting the Neoclassical style and experimenting with other approaches including simplified Functional designs which can be seen in Gurre Church (1918) and his own home (1920). Hans Peter Hansen (politician)
Hans Peter Hansen (1872–1953) was a Danish journalist and politician. He held various posts, including minister of defense and minister of finance. He was a member of the Social Democrats which he represented at the Parliament between 1913 and 1945. Biography Hansen was born on 6 October 1872. He was a journalist by profession and worked in the social democrat papers based in Funen, Midtsjælland and Zealand. From 1894 he became a congress member of the Social Democrats and between 1906 and 1915 he was part of its main board. He was elected to the Parliament in 1913 where he served until 1945 when he resigned from the post. He became mayor of Slagelse in 1917 and was in office until 1927. On 24 October 1932 he was named as the minister of defense and served in the post for six months until April 1933. Valdemar Henckel
Valdemar Henckel (1 April 1877 – 16 January 1953) was a Danish businessman and real estate developer. He founded Kalundborg Shipyard in 1918. Early life and education Valdemar Petersen was born at Fødselsstiftelsen in Copenhagen. His father died when he was small; his mother then married Oscar Alexander Henckel, a shipbuilder, who adopted her son. Valdemar Henckel then grew up under poor conditions with two younger half brothers. He was initially educated as a shipbuilder and then apprenticed as a mason. Career Henckel was active as a real estate developer. His development projects included the housing estates at Christmas Møllers Plads and in the Rysensten Quarter. He lost around 30 properties in the 1907–1908 bank crisis. In 1912 he then established a brickyard at Kalundborg. Arnold Andreas Bull Ahrensen Busck (29 November 1871 – 22 February 1953) was a Danish bookseller and publisher, founder of Arnold Busck A/S, Denmark's largest chain of bookstores. Early life and education Arnold Busck was born into a well-educated and moderately wealthy family in Roskilde to Theodor Busck and Fanny Elisabeth Busck née Ahrensen. His father was principal at Duebrødre Kloster and Hospital and was later appointed as Chancellor (''kancelliråd''). His maternal grandfather, professor Arnold Ahrensen, a medical doctor, was co-founder of ''Ugeskrift for Læger''. His paternal grandfather was an estate owner whose brother was the priest Gunni Busck, a friend of N. F. S. Grundtvig.
