1950 Davis Cup Europe Zone
The Europe Zone was one of the two regional zones of the 1950 Davis Cup. 22 teams entered the Europe Zone, with the winner going on to compete in the Inter-Zonal Final against the winner of the America Zone. Sweden defeated Denmark in the final, and went on to face Australia in the Inter-Zonal Final. 1950 Davis Cup
The 1950 Davis Cup was the 39th edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 22 teams entered the Europe Zone, and 4 teams entered the America Zone. Play took place on Asian soil for the first time, when the Philippines hosted Pakistan in Manila for their first-round Europe Zone tie. Australia defeated Mexico in the America Zone final, and Sweden defeated Denmark in the Europe Zone final. Australia defeated Sweden in the Inter-Zonal play-off, and then defeated defending champions the United States in the Challenge Round. The final was played at the West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills, New York, United States on 25–27 August. César Carmona
Cesar Carmona was a Filipino tennis player. Carmona played for the Philippines Davis Cup team between 1946 and 1951, mostly as the doubles partner of Felicisimo Ampon. The team made the semi-finals of the 1951 Davis Cup Europe Zone. While on a tour of the United States in 1946 he secured a major upset win over reigning collegiate champion Bob Falkenburg at the Western Hardcourt tournament, dropping just four games in the process. Mahmoud Alam
Mahmoud Alam (born in British India) is a former tennis player from Pakistan, who represented the country in the Davis Cup and also played at Wimbledon. Wimbledon He is the first Pakistani to reach the second round in 1948 at Wimbledon during the pre-open era. He was one of two Pakistanis at the tournament. Felicisimo Ampon
Felicisimo Ampon (October 27, 1920 – October 7, 1997) was a tennis player from the Philippines. He is considered to be the greatest Filipino tennis player in history, and at only 5 foot 3 inches tall, though closer to 4 ft 11, was once considered the best tennis player in the world, pound for pound. He represented the country in several Davis Cup competitions for almost 30 years, and holds the Philippine all-time record for the most singles (34-26) and total wins (40-35) in Davis Cup history. He was known for winning the 1934 Far Eastern Games tennis gold medal, the 1950 Pan American Games tennis singles gold medal, the 1958 Asian Games tennis doubles gold medal, and 1968 Chinese Recreational Club Open Tennis doubles title. Raymundo Deyro (14 March 1928 – 16 July 2019) was a tennis player from the Philippines. Career Asian Games Deyro won two gold medals at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, in the singles and men's doubles. He defeated his doubles partner Felicisimo Ampon in the singles final. Båstad () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Båstad Municipality, Scania County, Sweden, with approximately 5,000 permanent residents.
