Christian VIII (18 September 1786 – 20 January 1848) was King of Denmark from 1839 to 1848 and, as Christian Frederick, King of Norway in 1814. Christian Frederick was the eldest son of Hereditary Prince Frederick, a younger son of King Frederick V of Denmark and Norway. As his cousin, King Frederick VI had no sons, Christian Frederick was heir presumptive to the throne from 1808. Johan Bernhardt Schottmann
Johan Bernhardt Schottmann (2 November 1734 – 1786) was a German-Danish master builder who worked in Copenhagen, where he was an early proponent of the Neoclassical style. The Schottmann House at Strandgade 10 in Christianshavn is named after him. Biography Schottmann was born at Gotha in Saxony in 1734. He moved to Copenhagen where he was licensed as a mason on 11 May 1763 and served as alderman of the Masons' Guild from 1778 to 1785 As a master builder, Schottmann was an early proponent of the Neoclassical style in Copenhagen. His own house at Strandgade 10 in Christianshavn, now known as the Schottmann House after him, shows influence from Nicolas-Henri Jardins simple facade designs. With projects such as Søkvæsthuset's Bådmandsstræde Wing and Danish Asiatic Company's warehouse at Strandgade 25, Schottmann adapted new buildings to the style of older architecture. Johan Herman Wessel
Johan Herman Wessel (6 October 1742 – 29 December 1785) was an 18th-century Danish-Norwegian poet, satirist and playwright. His written work was characterized by the use of parody and satiric wit. Biography Wessel was born and raised at Vestby in Akershus, Norway. He was the son of Jonas Wessel (1707–1785) and Helene Maria Schumacher (1715–1789). His father was a parish priest. He was one of thirteen children in a family. His younger brothers included mathematician Caspar Wessel (1745–1818) and jurist Ole Christopher Wessel (1744–1794) His sister-in-law was landowner Maren Juel (1749–1815) and naval hero Peter Tordenskjold (1690–1720) was his grand uncle. Johan Edvard Mandelberg
Johan Edvard Mandelberg (22 January 1730 – 8 January 1786), Swedish-born painter living in Denmark, was born at sea during a voyage between Stockholm and Livland, Sweden. Life Mandelberg seeks training He was born to painter Johan Edvard Mandelberg and his wife Hedvig Sophia. His father taught him to draw and paint, and he worked in his father’s workshop in Stockholm. On seeing a battle picture by Johan Philip Lembke at Drottningholm Palace, Johan became determined also to paint battle scenes. Since there was no possibility in Sweden for him to get the necessary training for his ambitions, he received financial backing from three supporters who sent him to Paris in 1752. He went to Paris by way of Copenhagen along with Norwegian-born medallionist Magnus Gustavus Arbien (1716–1760). Daniel Gottvald Reimer Bentley (13 December 1786 – 13 June 1869) was a Danish civil servant. He served as mayor of Copenhagen from 1822 to 1857. Early life and education Daniel Bentley was born on 13 January 1786 in Copenhagen to Richard Bentley and Maria née Reimer. His father, an English silk dyer, had come to Copenhagen to work at Niels Lunde Reiersen's silk factory in Bredgade. Bentley studied law at the University of Copenhagen. His brother Richard pursued a career in the Danish Asiatic Company. Career Bentley was employed as in the Danske Kancelli in 1806. He was promoted to chancellery secretary () in 1808 and then to and secretary of the Department of Norwegian Affairs in 1812. In 1813, he was awarded the title of (Chancellery Councillor). The Department of Norwegian Affairs was closed when the personal union with Norway was dissolved in 1814.
