Östanå Castle
Östanå Castle ( sv, Östanå slott) is a castle in Sweden. It is located in the Österåker Municipality of Stockholm County, and is situated some north-east of Stockholm City. The castle overlooks the main shipping channel into Stockholm through the Stockholm archipelago, and the ferry port of Östanå, from which ferries cross to the island of Ljusterö, lies just to the west of the castle. Between the 14th and 17th centuries, various families from the Swedish nobility owned the castle. The original wooden building was destroyed in 1719, during the Russian Pillage, and the current main building was built between 1791 and 1794. At the end of the 19th century the castle was home to Erik Gustaf Boström, the then prime minister of Sweden. The Boström family sold the castle in 2006, and by 2016 it was in a poor state of repair, and up for sale for 35 million kronor. Österåker Municipality
Österåker Municipality ( sv, Österåkers kommun, ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Åkersberga, with a population of 26,727 (2005). From 1974 to 1982 Österåker was part of Vaxholm Municipality. Its location by the Stockholm archipelago, in the Roslagen area, attracts both people who settles here, often commuting to Stockholm, and visiting tourists. Österåker boasts several golf courses, many possibilities for canoeing, horse riding, fishing and other nature activities. Österåker also has a historical significance, with at least three notable castles from the 17th and 18th centuries, with histories tracing even further back. Sweden's once largest quartz mine, the Härsbacka mine, lays within the municipality. Ljusterö
Ljusterö is an island in Sweden. It is in the northern part of the Stockholm archipelago in Österåker Municipality, Stockholm County. It is approximately 65 kilometers north of central Stockholm. With an area of 62.05 km², it is the 17th largest island in the country. The island is accessed from the mainland by regular ferries from Östanå as well as by boat from central Stockholm. It has approximately 1,500 permanent residents and 25,000-30,000 residents during the summer season due to the large number of summer houses. Erik Gustaf Boström
Erik Gustaf Bernhard Boström (11 February 1842 – 21 February 1907) was a Swedish landowner and politician who was a member of the Swedish Parliament (1876–1907) and the longest-serving Prime Minister of Sweden of the 19th century. He served twice, first from 1891 to 1900 and then again from 1902 to 1905. He was also known as E.G. Boström or E. Gust. Boström. In 1871, he married Carolina "Lina" Almqvist, with whom he had six daughters and one son. Brother of County Governor Filip Boström and nephew of the philosopher Christopher Jacob Boström. Boström's governmental policy was marked by its pragmatism. Over time, Boström gained a good reputation as being a rallying national icon despite being the first prime minister to have neither an academic education nor experience with upper governmental positions.
