Östanå is a ferry port in the Österåker Municipality, municipality of Österåker in the Swedish Stockholm County, county of Stockholm. It is the mainland terminal of the vehicle ferry route to the island of Ljusterö, operated by Trafikverket, and is also a calling point for the passenger ferries of the Waxholmbolaget on its routes from the Stockholm, city of Stockholm to the northern part of the Stockholm archipelago. Österåker Municipality
Österåker Municipality ( sv, Österåkers kommun, ) is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden. Its seat is located in the town of Åkersberga, with a population of 26,727 (2005). From 1974 to 1982 Österåker was part of Vaxholm Municipality. Its location by the Stockholm archipelago, in the Roslagen area, attracts both people who settles here, often commuting to Stockholm, and visiting tourists. Österåker boasts several golf courses, many possibilities for canoeing, horse riding, fishing and other nature activities. Sweden has 25 provinces; they have no administrative function (except for in some cases as sport districts), but remain historical legacies and a means of cultural identification as pertains, for example, to dialects and folklore. Ljusterö
Ljusterö is an island in Sweden. It is in the northern part of the Stockholm archipelago in Österåker Municipality, Stockholm County. It is approximately 65 kilometers north of central Stockholm. With an area of 62.05 km², it is the 17th largest island in the country. The island is accessed from the mainland by regular ferries from Östanå as well as by boat from central Stockholm. It has approximately 1,500 permanent residents and 25,000-30,000 residents during the summer season due to the large number of summer houses. Waxholms Ångfartygs AB, commonly referred to as Waxholmsbolaget, is a shipping company owned by Stockholm county council and is responsible for the seaborne public transport in the Stockholm archipelago and Stockholm harbour. The company, which is mostly tax-funded, carried about 4.3 million travellers in 2003, covering a region from Arholma in north of the archipelago to Landsort in the south. The company owns 20 archipelago boats, and four boats for the inner-city Djurgården ferry line.
