Willie Herrón
Willie F. Herrón III (born 1951, Los Angeles, California) is an American Chicano muralist, performance artist and commercial artist. Herrón was also one of the founding members of ASCO, the East Los Angeles based Chicano artists collective (1972 to 1987). Early life and education Herrón grew up in East Los Angeles and for years had been sketching the world around him. He studied at Otis Art Institute and Art Center College of Design. Work Born in Los Angeles, Willie Herrón III's artistic career spans over forty years of performance and conceptual art, including music composition (member of Los Illegals and founder of ELA's Vex Club), as well as the design and execution of murals. He completed six restorations of the historic 1984 Olympic Freeway Murals, Los Angeles 2012-2017, commissioned by the Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles. Otis College of Art and Design is a Private university, private Art school, art and design school in Los Angeles, California, United States. Established in 1918, it was the city's first independent professional school of art. Patssi Valdez
Patssi Valdez (born 1951) is an American Chicana artist. She is a founding member of the art collective Asco. Valdez's work represents some of the finest Chicana avant-garde expressionism, working with an array of mediums, such as painting, sculpture, and fashion design. She lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Early life and education Valdez was born in 1951 and grew up in East Los Angeles. Valdez recalls that during the time she was growing up in Los Angeles, racism, police brutality and poor schools were a big problem. Valdez attended Garfield High School and graduated in 1970. She received a BFA degree in 1985 from Otis Art Institute (now Otis College of Art and Design). Career and work Valdez was a founding member of the Asco artist collective. Gronk (born 1954 in East Los Angeles, California, USA), born Glugio Nicandro, is a Chicano painter, printmaker, and performance artist. His work is collected by museums around the country including the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Biography Gronk was born in Los Angeles to Mexican Americans, Mexican-American parents and was raised primarily by his mother. He started creating things at a young age. He cites pop culture as a source of inspiration. Another artistic influence on Gronk was his uncle, who would frequently draw. Among other influences, foreign films which he generally watched in Santa Monica, California, Santa Monica, are mentioned.
