Thoại Sơn District
Thoại Sơn is a rural district (''huyện'') of An Giang province in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. In 2019 the district had a population of 163,427. The district covers an area of 456 km². The district capital lies at Núi Sập. The " Óc Eo" ruins of Cattara in the Kingdom of Funan is located here and they are believed to be from a trading port dating to between the 1st and 7th centuries CE. Óc Eo
Óc Eo (Vietnamese language, Vietnamese) is an archaeological site in modern-day Óc Eo communes of Vietnam, commune of Thoại Sơn District in An Giang Province of southern Vietnam. Located in the Mekong Delta, Óc Eo was a busy port of the kingdom of Kingdom of Funan, Funan between the 2nd century BC and 12th century AD and it may have been the port known to the Ancient Greece, Greeks and Ancient Rome, Romans as Cattigara. Scholars use the term Óc Eo culture to refer to the archaeological culture of the Mekong Delta that is typified by the artifacts recovered at Óc Eo through archaeological investigation. Archaeological site Excavation at Óc Eo began on 10 February 1942, after French archaeologists had discovered the site through the use of aerial photography. An Giang is a Provinces of Vietnam, province of Vietnam. It is located in the Mekong Delta, in the country's southwestern part. Geography An Giang is located in the upper reaches of the Mekong Delta. The Bassac River, Hậu Giang and Tiền River, Tiền Giang branches of the Mekong River are the province's dominant geographical features. Long Xuyên
Long Xuyên (), formally named Thủ Đông Xuyên, is the capital city of An Giang province, in the Mekong Delta region of south-western Vietnam. History In 1789, a group of explorers established a small outpost in the Tam Khe canal, naming it Dong Xuyen. Soon after, a marketplace was created and named Long Xuyên, but by the 1860s the area became better known for the Long Xuyen market than by the official outpost's name. From 1877, the reach of Long Xuyên grew as the city's administration became responsible for an increasing number of neighborhoods and wards.
