The Head is a rural locality in the Southern Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. It borders New South Wales. In the , The Head had a population of 12 people. Geography The locality is loosely bounded by the Great Dividing Range to the north-east, east, and south-east. The south-east boundary is also the state border between Queensland and New South Wales. The terrain is mountainous, ranging from above sea level. The Condamine River rises in the north-east of the locality () and flows through the locality exiting to the south-west ( The Falls). This may be the origin of the name ''The Head''. Wilsons Peak is a neighbourhood within the locality (). The mountain from which it takes its name is close to the boundary between The Head and Carneys Creek () and is in height. Southern Downs Region
The Southern Downs Region is a local government area in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia, along the state's boundary with New South Wales. It was created in 2008 from a merger of the Shire of Warwick and the Shire of Stanthorpe. It has an estimated operating budget of A$22.8 million. Moreton Bay Penal Colony
The Moreton Bay Penal Settlement operated from 1825 to 1842. It became the city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. History The Moreton Bay Penal Settlement was established on the Redcliffe Peninsula on Moreton Bay in 1824, under the instructions of John Oxley that a suitable location would be "easy of access, difficult to escape from, and hard to attack; furthermore, it should be near fresh water and contain three hundred acres for cultivation". Only one year after settlement, the inadequacy of Redcliffe's water supply became apparent and in May 1825 the commandant Lieutenant Henry Miller decided to relocate the settlement to the current Brisbane CBD. Patrick Logan
Captain Patrick Logan (1791 – October 1830) was the commandant of the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement from 1826 until his death in 1830 at the hands of Aboriginal Australians who objected to him entering their lands. As he had been hated by convicts, there were rumours that escaped convicts living in the bush had attacked him, but there is no evidence of this. Born in East Renton, Berwickshire, Scotland, he was the youngest son of a Scottish landowner and farmer, Abraham Logan and Janet Johnstown. He was baptised at Coldingham, Berwickshire on 15 November 1791. Logan had a distinguished military career. He was known as a strict commandant of the penal colony to the point of cruelty.
