Renown SC
Renown Sports Club is a Sri Lankan professional football club based in Kotahena, Colombo. Founded in 1981 by the Peeris Brothers, the club currently competes in the Sri Lanka Super League. History Renown SC was founded in 1981. The club emerged champions in the Sri Lanka Champions League four times in 1990, 1993, 1994 and 2009. They became the first Sri Lankan club to sign numerous Indian players for a single season, signing Shaji Varghese, Shibu Stellas and Shyam Simon (all from Kerala) in 2004. In 2004, Renown participated in the 110th IFA Shield in 2004, in Kolkata. They appeared in the 2010 edition of AFC President's Cup, but could not proceeded to the knockout stages. Home ground Renown uses Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, as its home ground. The stadium has a capacity of nearly 25,000 spectators. Sugathadasa Stadium
Sugathadasa Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It is currently used for football (soccer), football, Rugby union, rugby union, and Athletics in Jamaica, athletics. The stadium holds 25,000 people and has an on-site hotel. History The concept of an outdoor sporting stadium was initially raised by V. A. Sugathadasa, the Mayor of Colombo#List of Mayors, Mayor of Colombo (1956–57, 1963–65), the country's first Ministry of Sports (Sri Lanka)#List of Sports Ministers, Minister of Sports (1966–70) and Chairman of the National Olympic and Commonwealth Games Committee. POMIS Cup
The POMIS Cup (known fully as President of Maldives Invitational Soccer Cup) used to be an international club football tournament kicked off in 1987 to promote the standards of football in the Maldives. In 2003, two foreign clubs from India and Sri Lanka competed in the cup, Mahindra United and Negombo Youth. On 22 December 2014, the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) normalisation committee decided to restart POMIS Cup. Sri Lanka Football Premier League
The S1 League (; ), or simply S1, also known as Sri Lanka Champions League, is the second tier division of the Sri Lankan football league system. It was succeeded by the professional Sri Lanka Super League which serves as the first division. Until 2019, it was sponsored by Dialog Axiata and was thus officially known as the Dialog Champions League. The league was conducted in various formats. Apart from the league system, a playoff stage was included in 2013–14 season. Currently, 18 clubs are participating in the tournament. The AFC Challenge League (previously known as the AFC President's Cup, abbreviated as ACGL) is an annual third-tier continental club football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation. IFA Shield
The IFA Shield is a football competition organized by the Indian Football Association, the football governing body in the Indian state of West Bengal. The IFA came into existence in 1893, and was named after the association. The IFA Shield tournament was started in the same year.
