Pepe De Lucía
Pepe de Lucía (born José Sánchez Gomes; 25 September 1945 in Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain) is a Spanish flamenco singer and songwriter. The son of flamenco guitarist Antonio Sánchez Pecino, and the brother of flamenco guitarists Paco de Lucía and Ramón de Algeciras, he adopted the stage name ''Pepe de Lucía'' in honor of his Portuguese mother, Lúcia Gomes. He is the father of Spanish pop singer Malú. He released his debut recording, ''Los Chiquitos de Algeciras'', with his brother Paco de Lucía in 1961. He continued to sing on his brother's albums until 1988, when he was replaced by Duquende. His son, José de Lucía, is also a flamenco musician, like his uncles, father and grandfather. Flamenco
Flamenco () is an art form based on the various folkloric music traditions of southern Spain, developed within the Gitanos, gitano subculture of the region of Andalusia, and also having historical presence in Extremadura and Region of Murcia, Murcia. In a wider sense, the term is used to refer to a variety of both contemporary and traditional musical styles typical of southern Spain. Flamenco is closely associated to the gitanos of the Romani people, Romani ethnicity who have contributed significantly to its origination and professionalization. Latin Grammy Award For Best Flamenco Album
The Latin Grammy Award for Best Flamenco Album is an honor presented annually at the Latin Grammy Awards, a ceremony that recognizes excellence and creates a wider awareness of cultural diversity and contributions of Latin recording artists in the United States and internationally. According to the Latin Grammy Awards category description guide, the award was given, "For vocal or instrumental Flamenco albums containing at least 51% playing time of newly recorded material. For Solo artists, duos or groups." Since the inception of the category, only Spanish performing artists have received the award. Spanish musician Tomatito and Spanish singer Niña Pastori hold the record of most wins in the category with four wins each, followed by Paco de Lucía with three wins. Francisco Sánchez Gómez (; 21 December 194725 February 2014), known as Paco de Lucía (), was a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer, and record producer. A leading proponent of the new flamenco style, he was one of the first flamenco guitarists to branch into classical and jazz. Ramón Sánchez Gómez, better known by his stage name Ramón de Algeciras, (5 February 193820 January 2009) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist, composer and lyricist. He was the most prolific collaborator of Paco de Lucía, his younger brother, recording with him on most of his albums from the 1960s to 1980s and performing with him throughout much of his life as a rhythm guitarist, including the Paco de Lucía Sextet, formed in 1981, which also included his other brother Pepe de Lucía. Juan Rafael Cortés Santiago, known as Duquende (born 1965 in Sabadell, Spain), is a Spanish Romani flamenco singer (cantaor). Camarón De La Isla
José Monje Cruz (5 December 1950 – 2 July 1992), better known by his stage name Camarón de la Isla, was a Spanish Romani flamenco singer. Considered one of the all-time greatest flamenco singers, he was noted for his collaborations with Paco de Lucía and Tomatito, and the three of them were of major importance to the revival of flamenco in the second half of the 20th century. José Fernández Torres (born Fondón, 1958), known professionally as Tomatito, is a Spanish roma flamenco guitarist and composer. Having started his career accompanying famed flamenco singer Camarón de la Isla (with Paco de Lucía), he has made a number of collaborative albums and six solo albums, two of which have won Latin Grammy Awards.
