Norrköping Dolphins
The Norrköping Dolphins are a professional basketball club from Norrköping, Sweden. It plays in the Basketligan, the highest league in Sweden and won the league seven times. Home games of Norrköping are played at the Stadium Arena. History The club was established as Hageby BK () on May 8, 1963, by Åke Björck. Its name was taken from the Hageby district in Norrköping. The men's team made its debut in the Swedish first tier in 1964–65 but were relegated after only one year. They returned eleven years later, in 1976–77, with the American players Fran O'Hanlon and Kenny Grant on the roster. In 1980, Hageby won its first national championship after defeating Alviks BK in the finals, 3–1. In 1992 the Swedish basketball league was formed and the club changed its name to Norrköping Dolphins. Arena The Stadium Arena is the home arena of the Dolphins since its opening in December 2008. Svenska Basketligan, or the Swedish Basketball League (SBL), is the premier league for professional basketball in Sweden. The league was originally established in 1992 as Basketligan and was known as that prior to the season of 2006–07, but when the Sweden, Swedish company Obol Investment signed an agreement with the Swedish Basketball Federation in early October 2006, the league was renamed Obol Basketball League (OBL). In January 2007 the name was changed to Ligan, meaning simply the League. History On October 6, 2006, the Swedish Basketball Federation signed a 15-year agreement with Switzerland, Swiss company Obol Investment. Part of the deal was that ''Basketligan'' would be renamed ''Obol Basketball League''. The 2018–19 Basketligan season was the 26th season of the Basketligan, the top tier basketball league on Sweden. Norrköping Dolphins were the defending champions. Teams Köping Stars and Wetterbygden Stars joined the league. Regular season League table Results Playoffs The playoffs are played with a best-of-five format (1-1-1-1-1). Kendrick Shamar Brown (born October 24, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for FUS Rabat of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and Division Excellence. He plays at the point guard position. High school career Brown played high school basketball at Soldan High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He was ranked as the No. 206 player in Missouri. Professional career After going undrafted in the 2012 NBA draft, Brown signed with the Latvian club Jūrmala for the 2012–13 Latvian Basketball League season. Paulius Dambrauskas (born 16 December 1991) is a Lithuanian basketball player who last played for Astoria Bydgoszcz of the Polish Basketball League. Professional career In 2010, Dambrauskas signed a long-term contract with BC Lietuvos Rytas. In the 2012–13 season BC Sakalai loaned Dambrauskas from Lietuvos Rytas. The 2023–24 Basketball Champions League was the 8th season of the Basketball Champions League (BCL), the premier European professional basketball competition for clubs launched by FIBA. The season began on 17 October 2023 and ended with the championship game on 28 April 2024. Telekom Baskets Bonn were the defending champions, but were eliminated by Peristeri in the quarter-finals.
