Mátészalkai MTK
Mátészalkai MTK (MMTK) is a Hungarian football club based in Mátészalka. Established in 1919, it currently plays in the Nemzeti Bajnokság III – Northeast, the third tier of Hungarian football. The highest division they played was in Nemzeti Bajnokság II The NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Ke ..., second tier in 1940, 1947–1950, and 2000–2005. They play their home games at MTK Stadion. Previous names The club was also known as Mátészalka TK, Mátészalkai DTK, Mátészalkai Építők, Mátészalkai Spartacus, Mátszalkai MEDOSZ and Mátészalka FC. Mátészalka
Mátészalka is a town in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary. It is on the Kraszna River, 52 kilometers from the city of Nyiregyhaza. Geography It covers an area of and has a population of 17,015 people (2011). The town was the birthplace of actor Tony Curtis' father, Emanuel Schwartz. Population In 2001, the population of Mátészalka was nearly 96% Hungarian, 3% Romani, and 1% German. History Mátészalka was created from the merger of two large villages: Máté, founded in 1231 and Szalka, created in 1268. From the fifteenth century, Mátészalka was a market settlement. From 1920 - 1950 it was the seat of the authorities of some of the committees Szatmár, Ugocsa and Bereg remaining in Hungary after the Trianon Treaty. In 1969 Mátészalka received city rights. Tamás Sándor
Tamás Sándor (born 20 June 1974) is a Hungarian football manager and former player who is the current manager of Nemzeti Bajnokság III club Debreceni EAC. As a footballer he last played for Báránd KSE, and formerly for Debreceni VSC. Career Tamás Sándor began his career in his hometown team Debreceni VSC in 1991 and played for the side till 1997 when he joined Italian side Torino Calcio where he failed to impress. He was footballer of the year in 1996 in Hungary. He earned 11 caps for Hungary. He is three-time champion with Debrecen as a captain and all-time top goal scorer of the team. He represented the Hungary national team at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where Hungary failed to progress from the group stage. Tamas had a wonderful four-year spell in one of the biggest Israeli clubs, Beitar Jerusalem, the fans loved him and until this very day they remember him as a great footballer and fantastic human being. Nemzeti Bajnokság III (''NB III'', ''National Championship III'') is the third tier of Football in Hungary, Hungarian football (from the autumn of 1997 till the spring of 2005, NB III was the fourth tier, the third was NB II). The tier contains 4 groups (northeast, northwest, southeast and southwest) of 16 teams. From NB III, the champions of each group will battle promotion play-off, two teams winning play-off are promoted to the Nemzeti Bajnokság II, NB II. The NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams, though now it's just one league table with 16 teams as of the 2024–25 season. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III. Format On 2 March 2017, the Hungarian Football Federation announced that the number of the teams in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II will not be reduced to 12.
