Lord Derby Cup 2017–2018
The 2017–18 Coupe de France Lord Derby was the 80th edition of the Coupe de France Lord Derby, the premier rugby league knockout competition in France. It began on 4 November 2017 and ended with the final at the Stade Gilbert Brutus on 10 June 2018. The defending champions were AS Carcassonne who defeated FC Lézignan XIII in the 2016–17 final. In the 2017–18 competition, Carcassonne were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Lézignan who then lost in the semi-final to eventual champions Saint-Estève XIII Catalan who defeated XIII Limouxin 26–30 in the final. Saint-Estève XIII Catalan
Saint-Estève XIII Catalan are a semi-professional rugby league team based in Perpignan in the region of Pyrénées-Orientales in the south of France. Founded in 2006 following the transfer of Catalans Dragons from the French rugby league system, French to British rugby league system, the club plays in the Super XIII (the top tier rugby league competition in France), and effectively replaced Catalans Dragons in the French league, and thus is, in effect, Catalans Dragons reserves. The club takes its name from Saint-Esteve XIII Mavericks, AS Saint-Estève and XIII Catalan, the two clubs that merged to form Catalans Dragons. Rugby Club Salon XIII, nicknamed the ''Jaguars'', are a French Rugby league club based in Salon-de-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The club plays in the French Elite Two Championship. History Founded in 1947 RC Salon lifted their first silverware in 1959 when they won the National 2 (now called National Division 1) title beating Le Soler in the final 21–10. Marseille XIII Avenir are a French Rugby league club based in Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The club was in 2007 following the demise of Marseille XIII. Union Sportive Ferrals XIII are a French Rugby league club based in Ferrals-les-Corbières, Aude in the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The play in the National Division 1. They play their home games at the Stade de la Fontaine. Toulon XIII Metropole Marlins are French rugby league side based in Toulon, in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote-d'Azur. Founded in 2011, their home matches are currently played at the Stade Delaune. RC Carpentras XIII are a semi-professional rugby league club based in the city of Carpentras, Vaucluse in the south of France. Formed in 1938, they play in the Elite Two Championship in France, which is the 2nd tier. Their home ground is the Stade de la Roseraire. History The club was founded in 1938 under their original name Racing Club de Carpentras XIII du Comtat. The club competed in the amateur rugby league but at the end of just their second season war broke out and brought an end to French sport.
