Hàm Nghi Boulevard
Hàm Nghi Boulevard () is an east–west boulevard in District 1, downtown Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The boulevard stretches from Tôn Đức Thắng Boulevard (Bạch Đằng Quay, Saigon River waterfront) to the Quách Thị Trang Square (in front of the Bến Thành Market). History The boulevard was originally a waterway known in Vietnamese as ''rạch Cầu Sấu'' (translating to "Crocodile Bridge creek"). According to scholar Pétrus Ký, the creek got its name as there was once a crocodile reservoir in the area, where crocodiles were bred for meat. Following the French conquest of Saigon, the streets on both sides of the creek were first designated by n° 3, then they were given the names rue Dayot and rue de Canton, respectively. The waterway was later filled in and then by a decree dated 14 May 1877, the two streets were given a single name: boulevard de Canton. Lê Lợi Boulevard () is a boulevard in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, District 1, downtown Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Bitexco Financial Tower () is a skyscraper in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. At its completion in 2010, it became the tallest building in Vietnam and kept this status until January 2011, when it was surpassed by Keangnam Hanoi Landmark Tower. International Finance Centre One Saigon or International Financial Centre One Saigon, officially abbreviated as IFC One Saigon, formerly Saigon M&C Tower and Saigon One Tower, is a 41-storey high-rise building currently under construction at 34A Tôn Đức Thắng Boulevard, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Hàm Nghi
Emperor Hàm Nghi (, vi-hantu, lit. "entirely right", 3 August 1871 – 14 January 1944), personal name Nguyễn Phúc Ưng Lịch (), also Nguyễn Phúc Minh, was the eighth emperor of the Vietnamese Nguyễn dynasty. He reigned for only one year (1884–85). He was the younger brother of Emperor Kiến Phúc. In 1884, Hàm Nghi was enthroned at the age of 13 by the regents Nguyễn Văn Tường and Tôn Thất Thuyết. After the failed counterattack at the imperial capital Huế in 1885, Tôn Thất Thuyết took him out of the capital where he issued the Cần Vương edict to resist French colonial rule. In Hàm Nghi’s name, Tôn Thất Thuyết launched the Cần Vương movement, calling upon scholars and patriots to assist the Emperor by rising up to fight and save the nation, to regain independence.
