Effects of the COVID-19 pandemic On 16 August 2020, the match between Puskás Akadémia FC and Budapest Honvéd FC were postponed due to the fact that one player was tested positive for coronavirus. Teams Debreceni VSC, Debrecen and Kaposvári Rákóczi FC, Kaposvár finished the 2019–20 Nemzeti Bajnokság I in the last two places and thus were relegated to 2020–21 Nemzeti Bajnokság II, NB II division. The 2019–20 Nemzeti Bajnokság II (also known as 2019–20 Merkantil Bank Liga) is Hungary's 69th season of the Nemzeti Bajnokság II, the second tier of the Hungarian football league system. On 29 July 2019, it was announced that Balmazújváros did not receive license from the Hungarian Football Federation. On 29 August 2019 it was confirmed that Balmazújváros's license was suspended. Therefore, the 2019-20 Nemzeti Bajnokság would continue with 19 teams only. On 4 May 2020 season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season began 17 July 2015 and will conclude on 8 May 2016. Videoton FC, Videoton are the defending champions having won their second Hungarian championship last season. Last season an extra four teams were relegated to the Nemzeti Bajnokság III. Győri ETO FC, Győr had financial and licensing issues. Kecskeméti TE, Kecskemét, Pécsi MFC, Pécs and Nyíregyháza Spartacus, Nyíregyháza all had licensing issues. The season began 26 July 2014 and concluded on 1 June 2015. Debreceni VSC, Debrecen are the defending champions having won their seventh Hungarian championship last season. For the first time at a Nemzeti Bajnokság I, Nemzeti Bajnokság I seasons, match officials used vanishing foam for Direct free kick, free kicks. In the Groupama Aréna (Ferencvárosi TC, FTC) the goal-line technology was used. Videoton FC, Videoton won the league for the second time, under Joan Carillo, finishing 7 points above Ferencváros. DVSC suffered two defeats early on in the season, and found themselves 4 points behind Videoton FC by matchday 10, however, they managed to overtake their Western rivals, and went into the winter break with a 4 point lead over Videoton, and were undefeated between September and April. Zalaegerszeg and Vasas finished the 2011–12 season in the bottom two places of the table and thus were relegated to their respective NB II divisions. Vasas ended an 8-year stay in the top league. Zalaegerszeg ended an 18-year stay in the top league. The two relegated teams were replaced with the champions of the two 2011–12 NB II groups, Eger of the East Group and MTK of the West Group.
