Deeside () is the name given to a predominantly industrial conurbation of towns and villages in Flintshire and Cheshire on the England–Wales border, Wales–England border lying near the canalised stretch of the River Dee, Wales, River Dee that flows from neighbouring Chester into the Dee Estuary. Alyn And Deeside (Senedd Constituency)
Alyn and Deeside () is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. The constituency has been represented by Jack Sargeant since February 2018. Connah's Quay
Connah's Quay (), known locally as "The Quay" and formerly known as Wepre, is a town and community in Flintshire, on the River Dee and next to the border with England. With a population of 16,771, it is the largest town in Flintshire. The town is also part of the wider Deeside conurbation and is contiguous with Shotton, Flint and Buckley. It is located west of Chester and south of Liverpool also close to the Wirral. Just south of the River Dee and town is the Deeside Industrial Park. Additionally, Tata has a steelworks on the town's border on the north bank of the River Dee. Wepre Woods, an ancient woodland in the town, is controlled by Flintshire County Council's Ranger Service and includes Ewloe Castle which dates from the 13th century. Flintshire () is a county in the north-east of Wales. Ewloe (; , ) is a village and electoral ward in the community (Wales), community of Hawarden in Flintshire, Wales. It is situated close to the Flintshire/Cheshire sector of the Wales-England border. Flintshire County Council is based at St David's Park in the village. The A55 road, A55 expressway passes through Ewloe and its most notable landmark is Ewloe Castle. Shotton, Flintshire
Shotton is a town and community in Flintshire, Wales, within the Deeside conurbation along the River Dee, joined with Connah's Quay, near the border with England. It is located 5 miles (8 km) west of Chester and can be reached by road from the A548. In the 2011 census, Shotton had a population of 6,663. Etymologies The town's name is first recorded in Old English as ''Cyllingas''. This name derives from the Welsh language word Celyn (meaning Holly) and has persisted in one form or another throughout the town's history. Sealand is a community (Wales), community in Flintshire and Wards and electoral divisions in the United Kingdom, electoral ward, north-east Wales, on the edge of the Wirral Peninsula, Wirral peninsula. Aston, Flintshire
Aston Park, also known as Aston, is a village in the community of Hawarden, in the principal area of Flintshire, north Wales. It is near to Hawarden and Shotton, alongside the A494 road The A494 is a trunk road in Wales and England. The route, which is officially known as the Dolgellau to South of Birkenhead Trunk Road, runs between the terminus of the M56 motorway between Mollington, Cheshire, Mollington and Capenhurst and t ..., and it is often incorrectly referred to as Higher Shotton. Sandycroft
Sandycroft is a village in Flintshire, Wales, approximately southeast of Queensferry and southwest of Chester, on the B5129 road between Queensferry and Broughton. The community population taken at the 2011 census was 6,724. History A shipyard operated in Sandycroft in the 19th Century. It built a number of vessels including the Royal Charter. Sandycroft railway station was opened in 1884, and was served by the North Wales Coast Line for 77 years until its closure under the Beeching Axe in 1961. Geography The village is part of the Deeside conurbation and is located immediately south of the River Dee, which is canalised at this point between Chester and the Dee Estuary. It is accessible from the A494 via the Queensferry Interchange. Parts of Sandycroft suffered from floods in 2023 and 2024.
